I really enjoyed the book. She's some girl: mid-20s she was when she did it, back in the 70s. Well impressed, I am...

How do warm blooded people cope

Lots of good comments and suggestions above. I sleep lightly clothed (just a merino base layer) in a silk liner in the sleeping bag. Other clothes, blankets, etc. - if felt necessary - on top of the bag to slow the heat loss from the bag. If the bag has no hood then a woolly hat is a good...

    Basha /tarp

I have a couple of DD tarps I've been pleased with. See sandbag47's recent thread re "DD Group buy 2024", if you're going down the DD route: 20% discount. https://bushcraftuk.com/community/threads/dd-group-buy-2024.165753/

What a lady of my acquaintance calls "A Snot Rocket".

    What are you currently reading?

The Future, by Naomi Alderman. Enjoying it very much. Published in 2023, it seems somewhat prescient and contemporaneous. And I get the feeling that it's set really not much more than a few weeks or months in to the future!

    For Sale Old western books

One of the shops in Hay-on-Wye, the Book Town, may be interested. Some of the shops specialise in different "areas" of literature so a bit of searching may find you a potential customer.

    What is wild swimming?

I used to do a lot of sailing back in the 80s and would often swim off the boat at anchor. Particularly in the Solent area I would get a sore throat after the swim. So I stopped swimming there.

    Urban Navigation

I always carry a compass in strange cities: it helps orient oneself rapidly when arriving back at ground level from a subway / underground railway / station that has multiple exits. Ditto then to head the right way down the street after emerging therefrom. Or even from an above ground...

    Stoopid jokes

Two men are walking down the street. One says to the other, "Oh dear! Look at that dead bird." His friend looks up into the sky and says "Where?"

    Plastic free camping

I was reading recently that "The quest to declare the Anthropocene an official geological epoch has descended into an epic row...". Perhaps we should call this era, or epoch, the Plasticine? (It's OK, I'm getting my coat...)

All poultry subject to compulsory registration

I believe that some 57 million game birds are released into the UK countryside every year to be shot. They present sudden competition for our native species' feeding at that time, along with the potential for spreading Bird Flu. Once the game birds ("poultry") are released into the countryside...

    Ongoing care

I recall hearing recently that some Pharmacies can help with replacing wound dressings. Assuming, of course, that one can get to the Pharmacy.

    water bottles and water

For hiking... 2 x 1L Nalgene bottles. All year round I charge up by drinking 0.5L before I set off on a hike. (Saves "carrying" it.) In the darker half of the year I take 1L with me along with a Sawyer Water Filter and Squeeze Pouch. The rest of the year I take the aforementioned water filter...

    Spring has Sprung - 2024

A Happy Spring Equinox to all the denizens of this neighbourhood. And I hope that a little more brightness will come to all the inhabitants of this, our planet.

    Stoopid jokes

A 60-year-old millionaire has just married a 20-year-old model. "You crafty old devil," says his friend. "How did you manage to get a lovely young wife like that?" "Easy," replied the millionaire. "I told her I was 95."

    What are you currently reading?

The Secret Lives of Trebitsch Lincoln, by Bernard Wasserstein. If it was a novel one would not believe it! The true story of an adventurer, thief, fraudster, MP, con-man, etc., etc. from his birth in the late 19th to his death in the mid-20th century. What a dude!

Snugpak Elite 3 not very warm

I have found that it is good to start off a night in a sleeping bag with warm feet. To this end I have a pair of Rab Down Booties. They're lightweight and and fairly easy to kick off during the night if you get too warm. They have removeable soles so you can use around camp / bothy too. A nice...

WinterMoot 2024 - Festival of Outdoor Cookery

I'm anticipating a nice vid of your activities from the 2024 Winter Moot, as in previous years. Is there one under development somewhere?
