Is it possible to use the GPS within a mobile phone to the same accuracy? Do they work on the same satellites as the Garmin etc? That would be the cheapest - assuming they already have a smart phone of course!

well done KG it's a useful technique to know i use the figure 8 method most of the time. only occasionally (if there's not enough cord length) do i use another method.
