    Trip Report Riverside Trip

Marvelous spot that, and you certainly made the most of your time there. As said above by sundowner, the photo's give it a dreamy type of feel, like a childhood memory.

youtube vid about split cane rod making

What a craftsman! Angler paid a pretty penny for that rod, so much so that he couldn't afford waders.

The End of Internet Knife Sales. Law change could target one-hand opening folders

Aye, I can imagine some people will have an issue if they have to travel a bit. I too find it much more convenient to collect myself, and heinnie are not that out of the way for me either, couple it with an outing it's no big deal.

The End of Internet Knife Sales. Law change could target one-hand opening folders

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already, but heinnie have said they will use 'click and collect' So a buyer would prove their identity that way. Obviously a little inconvenient, but not the end of the world eh.

    Solar cooking anyone?

I hear you all. However, my intended use is not as a replacement to any of the other cook sets I use. I envisaged using it on the days, albeit infrequently when I'm at the beach with the family, a sunny day, a spot of shellfish foraging, set it up, leave it and play. I guess I will try it in...

    Solar cooking anyone?

Hey... I thought I'd share a very quick initial, albeit simple, as simple as can be really (eggs) tryout of a GoSunGo solar stove. I backed it on kickstarter, and recieved it a few days ago. I'm very impressed with how easy it is to use. The construction is light and robust. Took about half hour...

Monkey puzzle wood, any good for carving?

Aye, there is that way of looking at it, and it makes complete sense. Didn't get to take an image, completely forgot. Took me an over double the time to get home from work last night. The usual sheep panicking over the cold white stuff falling from the sky being the cause. I have the same thing...

Monkey puzzle wood, any good for carving?

Hey chaps. I thought I'd better post an update to this, as time has gotten the better of it, and me. I've finished the platter, a little while ago, and its in use. I'm guilty of leaving it be for too long, and tampering with other things, as is the way sometimes I guess. I wish I had more time...

The Ultimate "What is this Fungi?" thread.

Thanks Bob. I was pretty sure, but think those in the shot are brand new, baby ones. They were near perfect condition. Found these Parasol the other day too, but had no receptical to carry them in during the stroll, so left them for others to find and enjoy.

homemade saw for harvesting spoon wood

Great job! This is an idea I've had in the back of my mind for a very long time. This thread jolted that idea back to the present. So many thanks to Forginhill. As said, it is well worth tinkering with an idea to get what you want, do what you want at a fraction of the cost. Like many, I have...

Monkey puzzle wood, any good for carving?

Thanks RV, good advice methinks. I've used a couple of different brands of tung oil. one on a knife handle that came up very glossy and shiny after a couple coats, and no polishing or buffing needed too. It was not a pure oil, but had quick drying additives. I also have used a 100% pure tung...

    Birch burl kuksa

Did another one. Pretty much completed just before I took delivery of the adze and started the platter. Tried to form it differently this time, by going further out in the sides, and swept back slightly. Also, you may notice the unconventional looking handle. I was aiming at one that would have...
