    Dairy Free Cheese Fondue

Good Afternoon All, I treated myself to a little FT1 dutch oven which should arrive soon. I plan on doing a fondue with a couple of mates while we're out but I want to do a quick trial at home just to check out the dutch oven more than anything else, At home we're gluten and dairy free, has...

How do you clean your swiss army knife?

The newer nylon brushed don't work so well, they ones with the grey bristles about 0.5mm diameter, the older ones with the beige bristles work best for me, generally it a wipe in the knife and then a wipe on the leg to transfer the dust somewhere else. The little sponges on lollipop sticks I...

    Board Game Suggestions.

I second Banannagrams great game if you have a flat surface. If there's 4 or more of you Dixit is a good game, it gives you a good look into how the other player's minds work.

How do you clean your swiss army knife?

The little nylon brushes you got in the SA80 cleaning kit are great for getting bits of dust from underneath the hinge pins of the knife. if the brushes have been well used then the oil holds onto the nylon and pulls dust and debris out, once it's all cleaned then a drop or two of oil on the...

Lords Wood October 30th-1st November 2020

Excellent, that's good news, thank you for organising this. I'll bring some laminated maps of the area for people to peruse and we can clean them down with alcohol after use. Put me down for the 30th and 31st nights.

    What have you learned recently?

The truckers hitch, it finally clicked that it is just an alpine butterfly and then a couple of half hitches which form a clove hitch. it was very much a penny dropping moment when I realised how simple it was.

What are snugpak sleeping bags like?

I have both the Softie 10 and the ME Hyperlamina Spark 35. I bought the softie 10 as an alternative for the bouncing bomb for use on exercise and in comparison to that it's the badger's nadgers, it packs down a bit smaller, is significantly lighter and warm as anything, the reinforced foot box...

Tea Coffee Sugar. How do you carry yours?

I've got a load of the little plastic baggies that I used for storing triclover gaskets when doing an investigation a couple of years ago, they're a staples item but can't remember the part number. I just have a bag for powdered milk, coffee, and sugar, it's enough for a weekend, and if I need...

    Wind Up Torches

What happened to the torch that you had to shake to charge? Did that technology develop any further or did the marketing team realise what it looked like when they were charging their torches?

    Swimming with camping gear

Interesting problem, I've had a quick look on the OS maps and most of the islands in the lochs are about 100 - 300 meters from the nearest shore. one option would be to put your kit in a dry bag, properly closed with plenty of air in it and then coil a length of cord between you and the bag...

Gaiters and tall boots? Yes? No? Why?

It depends on the environment you're travelling in, if it bracken woodland with deer in spring - autumn then probably not as your biggest issue is ticks, which you've mitigated with the tick trap. I wear high leg boots day to day because my ankles are knackered but I'll put on gaiters, as...

    35L Back Pack replacement

I assume so it doesn't say any grades and their kit is normally new. There are a few at the local army surplus store up in Worksop that are in good nick for about £20. It was never designed as an overnighter, more of a daysack to move your gym clothes out an about in but OP asked for 35 litres...

    35L Back Pack replacement

Have you tried the RAF daysack, all in one construction and has the features you were after, cheap enough to last a couple of years and fairly light weight. https://www.cadetdirect.com/webbing-carriage/bergens-holdalls/black-day-packs/official-raf-air-cadet-daysack-30-litre-black

Frontier's Online Elementary Wilderness Bushcraft Course - anyone done it?

I've gone through the course online. After lock down stated we were working harder than ever so it was nice to have a bit of nature when I got home. I tended to watch the videos while having a soak and a glass of wine and then put the skills into practice in the local reserves. Content wise...

    What did you buy today?

I second the Polymath kit, my wife got me one earlier in the year and they're great, it's about the same size as an altoid tin so if you have a belt pouch for that it'll fit in nicely.

    Dune

I'm reticent to get my hopes up, I enjoyed the film as a kid, then last year I downloaded the audiobooks for my commute, I think I'm up to Charterhouse Dune. There is a lot to fit into one film and I think it'll miss out a lot of the political machinations. It'll be a struggle to get the wife...

    State Pension Awareness.

Oh no it's fine, It's an interesting insight into my generation's nihilistic sense of humour that we joke about not having anything in the future. I would say most people my age (mid to late 20's) are more fiscally conservative than older generations and are planning on being squeezed on both...

    State Pension Awareness.

Well that was a depressing look into the future on a Monday morning. 40 more years until I can claim a pension which will not even cover rent on my house, I'm glad I've been putting as much as i can into private pensions, I just hope they don't go bust in the mean time.
