    Hedge layers measure.

I can advise you not to say "Fathom" when someone asks your height during a medical, you'll get a strange look. Going back to the chain, is it an actual chain or a rope that would be used? A chain can get quite heavy especially if there are 20 meters of it and a rope is susceptible to weather...

    Food shortage again?

That seems like a sensible set of precautions but if I may add one to the list: It's very apparent in developing countries and indeed in the UK when the first lockdown had started that having a good relationship with neighbours and the local community can be a real benefit. The sharing of not...

You'll soon find a fork in your hand if you try that one.

    How to carry oil?

I would recommend getting a clean one, rifle oil does taste awful. Now I'm contemplating if using olive oil of a rifle would make it smell nice.

    Soup

My favourite soup has to be the chicken noodle soup that we used to get from Marktkauf, I've found it occasionally in Aldi or Lidl but never as often as I would like. The closest I can get is: Chicken Oxo Cube or chicken stock from your Sunday roast. 5mm diced cooked chicken 5mm diced carrots...

    Food shortage again?

We have been manufacturing like mad, it's unlikely you'll get a food shortage of food from UK manufacturers but as a nation we are running out of warehouse space (we still have ISO containers stocked in ports waiting to go to warehouses). What we are likely to get a shortage of is fresh fruit...

    How to carry oil?

At the risk of derailing the thread, we used to use loads of palm oil on site, then we moved to RSPO certified palm oil, now we're moving away from palm oil and using rapeseed instead. For the oil, how about those little rifle oil containers with the squirty nozzle and brush? providing the lids...

    How to carry oil?

Though truth be told more often than not I just use a small 50ml container in the top of my billy can.

    How to carry oil?

Contact lens solution bottles are pretty good, you need to slice off the tip of it to give you an opening big enough to fill but they are very secure and being of the rectangular shape pack a bit better...

    Burnous

Thanks for the pointer to that thread. Blimey, I haven't seen dax wax since I left college, it was just painful trying to put that stuff in.

    Burnous

So I have a surplus woollen blanket that's arriving today so this will be a nice little project during my Christmas leave, unfortunately my GCSE in french doesn't cover haberdashery so I had to google the instructions on the sheet but it seems eminently doable. Does anyone have any experience...

    Burnous

Well that answers that question, thank you, that is exactly what I was after.

    Burnous

Good Afternoon All, I've been pondering the idea of a backed (fronted?) burnouse for a while now, and the uses of it particularly in winter. I want thinking of putting one together using an old 58 poncho and woollen blankets either stitched together or joined by poppers at the front and back of...

    Work wear for outdoor wear?

I've got a stash of the Karrimor Panther trousers, they're smart enough to bimble about the office in but weather fairly well outdoors. After a couple of years the elastic starts to go and they soften up to make lovely trousers for knocking around at home.

    Cigars

I started smoking with hamlet miniatures, eventually went onto Marlboroughs at uni with a brief dalliance into pipe smoking with condor tobacco (It smells and tastes like bacon) Eventually I managed to learn to roll with gloves on. I stopped after uni so I don't know if much has changed in the...

Refurbishing ALICE pack, does anyone know where to get certain accoutrements?

Try point north, they do plastic fittings in all sorts of sizes, not sure where you would get those particular metal fittings though. https://www.profabrics.co.uk/pages/plastic-buckles-fitments-od

    Time to get legless

I've used it a few times now, I've nailed it down to 150g loaves which fit well and rises without touching the lid, I've just sat the dutch oven on the bottom of the oven it it works nicely. We have soup for dinner on Thursday and a loaf in the dutch oven will be the perfect size for two to dip...

    Disguising Camouflage ?

You can still see the pattern below but it looks more like something you would get out of H&M rather than stores, it certainly takes the military edge off it. I'll take a picture tonight.

    Disguising Camouflage ?

I can second Dylon on MTP but as above it doesn't impregnate the threads or fully get the buttons. If you're after surplus gear I'd recommend finding the blue navy kit or the black police kit, it's all the same stuff and as it's a block colour they dyed result shouldn't look dappled.

How much water do you carry?

I invariable take 2x 1 litre osprey bottles and a 4 litre dromedary type bag for when I get to camp which I can fill with purified water. the trick is to camp close to cleanable water.
