    Best Soap for repelling Insects

That's because DEET is the juice of Satan, while it melts bugs it also melts everything else; lips, contact lenses, and the cheek rest of your rifle but to name a few.

    Britain's Insects - New Book

Oooh, does it cover the Blandford Fly and what the best way is to rid the planet of those little blighters. I may have to get this to add to my field guide collection, soon I won't have any spare pockets in my smock for all these.

    Starter Kit recommendations

It might be worth popping over to one of the meets for a day, I'm sure there's people who have spare gear that they wouldn't mind swapping for a crate of beer. Plus you get to put faces to names. Kind regards, Ollie

    Mental backflips

I was bimbling around the woods with my dog last week and I was getting eaten alive by the midges. My immediate thought was well I've got some bug repellent in my possibles pouch but I can't use that as that's the pouch for emergencies. I realised at the that I've been carrying all my useful...

    Inventions that should Exist

A toaster with timer on it, the numbers on our toaster do not relate to any thing tangible, on most common toasters they relate to the resistance on a capacitor which, when it discharges shuts off the heating circuit (More resistance, more time, more heat, burnt toast).

    Universal Basic Income

In fairness I stand corrected, the income tax on the basic rate has dropped and I hadn't clocked the higher tax rate increase from FY10-11

    Universal Basic Income

I would be certain that my wife and I would put it into housing savings, it's next to impossible to save for a house when a vast chunk of your money goes into your landlord's pocket. As for who would pay for UBI, we just need to tax the richer elements of society. Over the last 70 years the...

    Belts for under packs

I have one of these north ridge waist belts, they're good if you have a hip pad that goes over your normal belt but you do need to add a friction strip to this belt as it slips, put about 6" os sniper tape on and it works a treat.. https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/15908275/north-ridge-web-belt-15908275

Boy Scouts USA getting eaten alive

There is a little difference in age, the explorers are 14-18 and OTC guys tend to be 18 - 22. It'll be interesting to hear from other scout leaders what their experience is when you get girls in the sections. I think it's an interesting one for the guides, the're a sister organisation but not...

Boy Scouts USA getting eaten alive

I think there's two separate issues; having mixed units may increase the risk of predatory individuals but I haven't seen any data on it. The other is the mixed units from a quality of scouting point of view, from what I've seen it's much easier when there are mixed units as the girls tend to...

Boy Scouts USA getting eaten alive

I've recently signed up as an assistant scout leader and I must say that the safeguarding is second to none, it's really hammered into the culture that we're there to look after the kids and the channels of communication if we think there is an issue are very clear. It surprises me that the US...

    *The* Gift-It-On Thread

I must say the bow drill cord is cracking, I keep mine looped in the top pocket of my smock, it's nice a grippy for the drill.
