    Stoopid jokes

We used to buy a sheep's head with the eyes left in so it could see us through the week.

An extreme weather camp at Cribyn

Thanks for evoking memories. My trip, years ago now, wasn't quite so hairy. I could see where I was most of the time!

    What did you buy today?

You point in in the direction of the fish. In practice, you will find that all suitable fish know to the nearest centimetre the range of all spearguns and swim at least a metre beyond that. I suggest your womenfo!k take a supply of tinned tuna.

    A luxury and a book...

A fully charged Kindle has proved the very realistic problem you imply. I have carried a book of cryptic crossword puzzles in my rucksack ever since getting snowed in for days with only one book while on trek many years ago. Based on his own experience in the Great War the philosopher Herbert...

    Which folding saw?

My Bahco Laplander sees more use in the garden than anywhere else. I prune trees, keep hawthorn hedge in order and cut firewood with it. Just the job when working in dense thicket. I've had it for years and it's very forgiving of hard use. Highly recommended.

    Uncontrollable laughter

One of my teachers sent a small boy to me for a headteacher's telling off. I was teaching the top class at the time. They knew me well and pretended to get on with their work while they surreptitiously watched my act. I knew it was an act, they knew it was an act: only the lad on the receiving...

What wildlife did you spot today?

They've now all left home leaving behind an infestation of bird mites. We're itching and scratching. Everything has a price in this world!

Glad to have helped you to learn something you didn't know before. I used to get paid for doing that!

What wildlife did you spot today?

I watched two of the three swallow chicks which we have on our loggia take their first flight today. The third seems to lack the confidence to give it a go despite the encouragement of its parents and relatives. We have watched the whole process from the repairs to the old nest to hatching...

    Afghan pressure cooker lead poisoning

I've been using aluminium mess tins and pots all my life and at 83 next birthday I've still got all my marbles. (Now, where did I put them?)

What wildlife did you spot today?

From a harbour path beside the Mediterranean from a distance of about 3 metres, watched a cormorant in crystal clear water dive, hunt, chase, catch and swallow a fish. For once in the right place at the right time.

What wildlife did you spot today?

Our resident swallow family are doing well. Three chicks popping heads up for food. One adult flew into the apartment and tried to fly out through the glass sliding door, temporarily stunning himself and needed to be rescued. Despite being so small I felt immense power in his little body as I...

    Eco-friendly Clog-Popping

Sorry to hear of your loss, but bear in mind that funerals are not for the benefit of the deceased but for those who survive them. We've been through the viking/jazz/cremation/burial fantasies but currently fancy cremation and ashes mixed after the last one goes. Having been together for 63...

What wildlife did you spot today?

We are fortunate in having a pair of swallows nesting on the loggia of our place in the South of France. They arrived at about the same time as we did so we have watched them refurbishing their ancestral home. We had a gap of a few years following a predation by a hawk so it's good to see them...
