sawyer mini, i use a millbank bag prior if the water is very turbid or has big sediment etc in it. then run it through the mini, then boil.
Isnt fast but it works.
Shrink tube won’t stop water ingress unless you use glue lined stuff but then you won’t get it off your fire steel easily.
I have used plenty of shrink wrap making automotive looms over the years
Opposite question but the most ridiculous thing I have taken through airport security was a deactivated warning maroon flare, vintage 1960’s - was taking it from one museum to another and didn’t want to pay the ridiculous baggage fee easyJet charged abs it was to fragile/rare to let out of my...
Ditto re: the hood. I do think that could be tweaked, it works well when up and the zip done up and the hood closed at the neck but not really if you have the hood down and the neck zipped up. Having said that I wouldn’t be without the hood tbh
Also ditto re: the thorn, I pulled mine not that...
Mine predominantly stays at home, but it gets the odd outing. I used it quite a bit when we had a power cut (didn’t have any camping gas in stock!) for boiling a bunch of water quite quickly. I also like it with my nephew, we practise fire lighting and use the KK (I actually have a ghillie...
Right been wearing this solidly for about 3 months now. Most weekends and the odd evening, and at night a couple of times. Washed it once (fell over in mud - don’t ask)
Have worn it in a variety of weathers between -2c the other night to +10c the other day. Mixed acrivities, working, dog walk...
Water is actually a really good idea and imminently easier to do.
Background radiation averages about 0.10uSv/hr round my way, so very minimal
I mean natural, as in just the background. I have some samples that measure barely above background - naturally occurring uranium-vanadium nodules I...
Just to investigate what exactly various ore samples I have collected over the years are giving off in term of radiation. Have a google, it’s quite fascinating and you can identify individual isotopes and decay daughters with a gammaspec setup
But to get good clear spectroscopy you need to...
What weight? I wonder if it can be cast in to blocks.
I have a home gamma spectroscopy setup I am in the process of assembling lead blocks to use as shielding to block out natural background radiation.
I am to tight to buy lead though soon wait until I come across some doing site clearance etc...
