Bushcraft tools that could be classed as weapons?

Not sure about the targe but the buckler is very definitely an offensive weapon when used correctly, especially when paired with a bossed cutlass. Have to say tho that I've not got around to putting the counterweight boss on my own cutlass, too many more important things to do

One good source of cheap flys that I have used in the past is the clearance sales of tent footprints. Often I have seen these for sale at less than half price. The footprint for a 4-person tent is large enough for a fly on its own

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

Anything can be a weapon. A rolled newspaper can be quite effective as can a wet towel. I may be old but I do not feel "insecure" but I've always felt naked without a knife on me, I think I was 8YO when I was gifted my first real knife and my trade revolved around razor and scalpel sharp blades...

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

I've that same problem. Australia signed some sort of International arms treaty and our stupid government are retrospectively applying it to all firearms and parts, no matter how old or obsolete. I have people in the USA who desperately want the Envoy parts I have but I can't legally export...

    Vintage rucksack hip belt replacement

I've looked at the Jaakari, and I think it wouldn't be any good for that, too skinny and no padding at all

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

I'm just have a quiet laugh to myself remembering back to my time in the UK when I was told to carry my ice axes into the plane as carry-on as they were too dangerous to put into the cargo hold. Looking in from outside the UK seems to be dissolving into absurdity but I doubt we are far behind...

    Vintage rucksack hip belt replacement

A business envelope only costs me a couple of dollars and I've had the sleeve for decades. I used it for pull harness loops for sleds and pulks and tree huggers Well $3:90 AUD https://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/calculate-postage-delivery-times/#/option/international/AU/GB Money; it's tight; but...

TBH I don't know how it exited the UK, but it arrived via Australia post usually without being opened for customs inspection. Are there exemptions for bayonets? All I buy from this seller are bayonets and dirks

I've only paid the deposit, an agreement was made to allow me to pay over time as I've purchased from this seller previously and money to pay it in a lump sum isn't there right now. It was a 3 month agreement which takes me into May. I don't have a credit account/credit card. Maybe I should get...

Heads up - Post office not sending sharps after 22nd April

Has England gone totally insane? Do these new regulations apply to overseas post? Because I was negotiating the purchase of a bayonet from a well know UK based international antique militaria business and I just paid a non-refundable deposit.

Would some LW tubular polyester sleeving help? Just enough to make a couple of wings for left and right sides It's 78mm wide and takes a bit of foam cut to about 60mm /70mm wide I have a few metres left and would be happy to post you some. I should fit into a standard business envelope at letter...

    Vintage rucksack hip belt replacement

I bought a NOS American MOLLE hip belt for one of my old frame packs, they work rather well. Postage might cost a bit but with luck you might find one in a local surplus store https://www.ebay.com/itm/166300284218

    Vintage rucksack hip belt replacement

Woody Girl that pack looks a little like mine, are they Scotch pockets of about 8 litres capacity? The hip belt on mine was a bit more sophisticated more like one of the Karrimor belts, a bit shaped and padded and secured to the frame with [ I think] webbing and a couple of D-rings

    Vintage rucksack hip belt replacement

I had a Berghaus external frame when I was in the UK many years [ 40 +] ago with the old Geant rucksack, but I swapped it out for a better CampTrails frame after a short while and my memory of the frame and belt is foggy I do not think however that it was a simple web with buckle,

Was there a picture of the pack in question? Without actually seeing detail pix of the pack frame and bag it's hard to give an answer but hip belts are one of the things I find harder to make

You could try a roller foot, although I found it didn't help much if at all. A lot depends on the machine. A good clean and service really helps tho.

    Blackberry brandy recipe/tutorial?

Two weeks now and smells like cherry brandy should but I thought it needed a little more edge so I added a 500ml bottle of pure Polish spirit to the carboy. The party is on Saturday next so it gets strained on this coming Monday and racked for drinking on Friday next. The same with this batch of...

    Bivvy bag?

I've got the Regular sized American MSS Far too small for me and no way I could get changed inside it. Even in my mountain bivvy bag getting dressed would be next to impossible, for some reason I need far more room to get dressed than to wriggle out of clothing. My lightweight winter SB has an...

    Bivvy bag?

Well a Scottish -9C is like a Canadian -30 in terms of comfort. All I can say is that if you use a sleeping bag cover type just add a small tarp to cover your head and you'll be OK for most conditions
