    Mountain ( International ) Rescue.

The US Army, more specifically the Marine Corps has been actively kicking the concept around since the 1950's. Hover platforms, single seat helicopters, jet packs, hover jeeps, NOTAR helicopters and the insane Project Ithacus all started with the dream of moving troops around faster. Testing of...

    Wind Up Torches

Well yes, sort of. Steampunk fanatics are often overjoyed to discover that the wind up "Ruhmkorff lamp" mentioned by Jules Verne in both 20,000 leagues Under the Sea and Journey to The Center Of The Earth actually existed in 1860.

    underground water.. SAFE TO DRINK?

It's a bit beyond what I would call "bushcraft" but you could go old-school science fair and take a look at the water for life using a quality microscope then see if anything grows in a petri dish. Identifying exactly what's wriggling or growing however would be a whole new level of difficultly...

Steampunk Battle Lantern (work in progress)

Base - 3watt fluorescent desk-lamp Tealight Lantern full power Lantern "half" power There's not a lot of apparent difference between the last two shots because LED flashlights are usually dimmed by switching them on/off really fast. This creates an optical illusion that makes you think...

    Framed packs

The AT is a bit of a special case, there's a whole tourist industry geared to supporting hikers that simply was not there in the Kelty started making gear. Back then you could be a week on the trail between towns and any hope of resupply, hence the need for a good size pack. Now.. you can phone...

Steampunk Battle Lantern (work in progress)

This is one of my slow projects that's been under the bench for a while waiting for inspiration and suitable parts to present themselves.. Shoehorning in the new electrics at the moment on account of Captain Nemo's original design using Sodium batteries having some issues. When done it will...
