    What did you buy today?

Gave in to the urge and bought the last 'Rocktrail' poncho in Aldi. My old silnylon one has developed annoying pin-holes, to small to see but big enough to get you soaked slowly. This new one looks a bit tougher but it was a close call between it and a shower curtain. Doubles as a tarp so it's...

    Random confessions

Thankyou for the reminder to buy more DEET, I swear knowing that's a potato is not helping. It looks like a bug, a very to big bug.

    Day Out Back2Brechfa

Some say it's about the journey not the destination, all I know is the route sucks and I never want to go through the last three years again. Anyhow, fate has now officially washed me up on the shores of Brechfa forest and my gear has finally come out of storage. I used to know the place but...

    New knife laws

When they ask for ID, I ask if they would like to tug on my grey beard to be sure. Jokes aside, it doesn't take a lot legal gymnastics for some pruning saws to become questionable either. Consider the Silkyboy range. Serrated blade, lockable in open position with branding suggesting it's a...

The best lights for power cuts!

For most folk you can't really go wrong with LED, even gear at the cheap end of the market performs relatively well these days. Remember the time when the best you could brave the night with was a Pifco rubber torch or a three D-cell maglite!

    What are you currently reading?

:aarghh: Just had DWP's "Restart Provider Guidance" thrown at me. Two chapters in and I'm pretty convinced Emperor Palpatine and George Orwell were consulted heavily.

    I'm after a pot..

Stainless steel coffee canisters crop up all the time in charity shops and hold about 1.2litres. They tend to be around the 4"/ 10cm diameter so a small CV100 gas can should drop inside nicely. I think...those gas cans are either 90 or 95mm wide Still on first coffee, hopefully somebody more...

    Diy Waterproofing fabric?

One of the less explored ideas with DIY waterproofing is that silicone can be found in some fifty colours besides bathroom white & industrial black so creating a custom camo tarp becomes a very tempting option.

    Diy Waterproofing fabric?

Have made smaller items such as dry-bags and gaiters out of cotton sheet with silicone/white spirit waterproofing in the past and it works really well. They weigh a little more than Silnylon but definitely more durable.

    Beware the Bratwurst

As folk prepare for the annual xmas pudding hunt a word of caution, watch out for the Bratwurst! Lidl have been stacking the shelves with a version of this popular sausage laced with chilli. So don't just grab them, check the label or you could be in for a surprise.

    Using broken stuff for Bushcrafting

Seat from a bicycle would make a nifty little stool. Tire tread as replacement sole for boots. Wire saw using the brake cable. Probably lousy for cutting branches but might work as a vertical saw attachment for the pole lathe.
