    What happened to pipkins?

Would imagine it's to do with the move towards communal ovens/bake-houses as feudal lords organised the workforce to be more efficient. As a result cookpots no longer needed feet or long handles allowing a better fit into the oven space.

Scrim net scarf...or good old Shemagh??

The dunes behind many UK beaches are a great place for spot of wild camping and trying ones hand at fishing. Coupled with the proximity of the tourist industry you are never that far from the shops. So vital supplies of food and more importantly beer don't have to be carried far. The downside...

Scrim net scarf...or good old Shemagh??

Hirbawi Kufiya, 100% cotton, tight weave and bigger than the Chinese offerings. The extra length is important as it allows them worn in a variety of traditional styles without being overly tight on the head. I've got a Mar Saba and Julie loves her brightly coloured "Chocolate" one. They fair...

A metro train in Spijkenisse, near the city of Rotterdam, crashed through a barrier at the end of the tracks shortly before midnight on Sunday. But rather than plummeting into the water below, ended up being balanced on the sculpture of a whale's tail at the De Akkers metro station.

    Full Tang in Nalgene Bottle?

Being realistic I would suggest a Mora Eldris. Short enough to fit the Nalgene, and has a practical grip. Whilst not full tang the reduced blade length makes for less leverage/stress where the tang meets plastic. So it should be strong enough to cope with abuse from most people.

No. You have simply evolved into a homesteader, with a comfy chair. Though the reasons we wander are many, deep down are we not looking for that place we feel at home? How many here dream of owning a woodland and building a cabin. No. There is no shame in being an armchair bushcrafter, you've...
