    Permanent survival shelter building?

Hello Raj, I copied your post here and edited it a little to be easier to read. Also changed title. Questions like yours are easily overlooked in the Intro area. People assume threads are just folk saying hello. There are several aspects of your post to unpack; what you are asking to learn...

    What bergen?

Regarding modding and sewing on side pockets, the material is 500 Cordura, so quite easy to sew with a regular domestic sewing machine. The problem, as with all pack modding, is accessibility of where you want to sew now that the pack is a finished assembly. However, the HPG packs are very...

    What bergen?

On subject of volume, based on my experience with their packs, I think your assessment that it is only 80L is pessimistic. Did you find the thing about different ways to measure volume? SPECIFICATIONS Weight: 5.30 lb Length: 12.00 in Width: 12.00 in Height: 31.50 in Dimensional Volume: 4536.00...

    What bergen?

Keep an eye out for a used Hill People Gear Qui-Ya. The new price (must remember to add belt) then with shipping is right at or just over your limit, but it is an excellent pack that ticks all the boxes you describe.

    Can Steels Get Worn Out?

Strange thread. The original poster came, posted, presumably read the replies from December 2023, and has not been on the forum since. Falstaff then posted in August 2024, with a different but related question. Continuing to reply to the original question might add to the knowledge base of...

    Status on Bushcraft

Sorry, no idea. I cannot remember offhand what the monikers relate to in terms of post count. Tony should know, but might take a little while for an answer. Chris

    Non-military camouflage?

Indeed...the answer is tweed and plaid. There are even some brown plaid t-shirts out there. Look pretty strange to me, I would rather plaid be on a long sleeve button down shirt. Lots of the paisley shape fashion prints could almost be camo. Best for your t-shirts is Return of the Jedi tie-dye!

    Wanted Anyone do Kydex?

I was thinking more of this...although it is available only in the US. https://www.knifenetwork.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57733 Or https://www.interstateplastics.com/docs/KYDEX_Sheet_Technical_Brief.pdf?srsltid=AfmBOorl4bQ0jSHBH75tE3sQpaSikWkHIZ2h8dTXw3Nj586QeOQ5-vJf

    Wanted Anyone do Kydex?

I would suggest that leather would be better than Kydex for this project. I work with Kydex, and recently made three sheaths for kitchen knives. With thin leather it is possible to make less bulky blade covers compared to Kydex. The exception would be someone who can weld Kydex rather than...

What knife(knives) do you use bushcrafting?

The most knife use I have had has been when visiting Sweden and Norway, hiking or canoeing. Knives were used to: clean fish, prep food, cut rope and cord, carve cooking utensils, carve craft projects in the evening, split wood, carve feather sticks for fire lighting, limb poles for...

What knife(knives) do you use bushcrafting?

I like my custom Griptilian folder or my Ritter Grip. I always have a SAK. Fixed, I like 3.75 - 5" blades, flat ground, convex edge. Prefer stock under 1/8th but have a couple of Lion Steels that are thicker. Nothing does everything equally well. Spoon carving benefits from a pointier blade...

What knife(knives) do you use bushcrafting?

Can you please define "bushcrafting"? And if you do so by saying "going out in the woods to do bushcraft." Can you define what bushcraft is? :naughty: :deal::ban:

Diy Hennessy jungle Safary XXL underquilt using snugpack cocoon or similar

I DIYed a synthetic underquilt from scratch, still using it for summer camping. It was smaller than what you are talking, and fits a regular Dutchware Chameleon for me, 5'8". You have an electric or foot operated sewing machine? I did a big sew job on a hand turned machine and it was really...

    Hi to all

Thanks @Chris the profile flagged as suspicious but I hadn’t had time to check thoroughly, thought I would approve it and see what they had to say about themselves. Uncharacteristic for me I know…. But was busy. Much appreciated @Sardoodledom Go back to the Shadow.

    Can Steels Get Worn Out?

Short answer, yes, you can use iron, although steel works better https://www.rockngem.com/examining-pyrite-iron-and-flint-the-fire-makers/ https://wroughtworks.com/wrought-iron-identification/ https://www.tpub.com/steelworker1/6.htm

    Hi to all

Welcome to the forum. Cape Coral Florida? How did you find us? We have other folk from the US, but it is always interesting to hear how they found there way to a UK forum when there are so many active forums in the US. What sort of outdoor stuff do you do or are interested in? “Play” is a bit...
