@John Fenna If you would like Rollo to contact you, you could drop him a PM, to which he can reply immediately, no need for him to wait to build a post count. New members need to clear the manual post approval stage to initiate a PM conversation, but not to reply to one. Chris

    KMFS VANTAEDGE INTEGRAL SHARPENER

26 degrees total will work. I don't have a guided sharpener, but I have a bevel protractor and digital slope meter and have worked out that I like how knives cut wood when sharpened between 24 and 26 degrees. Lower cuts nicely, but tends not to curl wood when you want curly shavings. Steeper...

    I can't stand Deadpool

I have come to find that I tend to agree with what Critical Drinker says in most of his reviews. As such, I wasn’t even tempted to watch any RoP, despite being a fairly enthusiastic fan of Tolkien’s world. I glimpsed enough in clips to know it would just grate on me. I did find Free Guy...

    I can't stand Deadpool

@Kadushu , I am with you. I find Ryan Reynolds bordering on unbearable. There have been a few movies with him that I have watched and enjoyed, but with Deadpool, particularly 2 and 3 that annoying smart a55 motor mouth thing is dialled up to eleven! Not a fan of the scatalogical and gore...

    Ethical tent waterproofing?

Nothing more ethical than an organic hemp fibre tarp treated with patchouli oil.

    Bulletproof vs lightweight

As mentioned earlier, there are some activities where tougher packs and outer garments can be important. Examples of which I have personal experience: Hunting - involves stalking or wading through thorns and brambles, sitting hours on the ground, crawling. Canoeing - packs are stacked in...

    Leatherwork advice

Uh huh? Very interesting. I would suggest that all the replies in this thread still apply. https://bushcraftuk.com/community/threads/what-tools-do-i-need-for-leatherwork.105963/ Account ultimately had five of the red flags associated with scammers. There is a watch list and sometimes we...

    KMFS VANTAEDGE INTEGRAL SHARPENER

Limits you to a minimum of 15dps, which is about 2.5dps steeper than I think you should be sharpening for bushcraft. Hell of of a lot of money for something that isn't infinitely variable and cannot sharpen a 25 degree edge or less. Or sharpen an axe....and cannot be taken into the field...

Voluntarily handing in a large blade to the UK police

‘If mine is bigger, I’m going to win’: Getting zombie knives off the streets https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c0kjvnd1728o Noteworthy is the bit near the end where it shows mention of such big knives in crime reports has doubled since 2019.

    Bulletproof vs lightweight

@Pattree, Guess it depends how one interprets the uses of the term “Kelly (k)ettle”. You use “Kelly Kettle” capitalised both hence a brand name. Jon937 used “Kelly kettle” hence the kettle made by the Kelly brand. The Hobo Stove (a term that it appears that Kelly have Trade Marked…!) is not...

How to legally dispose of an Air Rifle in Scotland 2024

@Herman30, That last post wasn't really helpful. You don't live here, so you don't have that as an excuse for venting your opinions. Please remember that we like to keep politics off the forum. There is a thin fuzzy line for topics like this where folk that have to live with the laws get...

    Bulletproof vs lightweight

I have not used a Kelly Kettle, but I used home made alcohol stoves for years, and both a Fritz Handel Bush Buddy and a couple of bigger Pound-Shop tin DIY versions. I also have an Alpkit Koro gas stove since 2015. The Koro has pretty much retired all the other stoves. Much of my camping is...

    £250 survival knife...

For cutting stuff up to 2.5" diameter I reckon that the right large knife like tool is better than an axe. I have a GB SFA, and a Wildlife, and a Mini. The SFA is forged as more of a limbing tool than it is a splitting tool. For the last 30 years my mum has been a notable volunteer involved in...

Most durable/long lasting waterproof jackets (without maintenance)

Given how my Ventile jacket becomes stiff enough to almost stand up on its own when it is really wet, I have trouble imagining that equally wet Ventile trousers would be comfortable! It’s been mentioned but worth saying again. When wetted out, Ventile will allow moisture to wick through to...

    Bulletproof vs lightweight

I say that it’s not an either or situation. Lots of variables. Nothing stopping you having examples of both, and in some cases they could be the same. What kit are you thinking about specifically? Are you going to be carrying it long distances on your person, or will a vehicle carry the...
