    Have a look online for a cable access set/kit it's like a miniature set of drain rods but ment for pulling electric cables through access holes etc. Useful for all sorts of other stuff, fishing behind rads, drawstrings in shorts etc

    If you search for websdr you will find a load. The one at twente is a good one, 0-30MHz range. Works ok on a smart phone too

    Oh, one bit of advice, get the programming lead, and a copy of 'chirp' there are plenty of YouTube videos on how to use it. Handy for putting repeaters in to the memory as well as the 2m simplex channels.

    I'm afraid that I'm to much of a cheapskate! I use mapswithme. It uses open street maps data. You can download what ever to your phone. Not os and lack of grid refs but very useful all the same.

    I used to be cook for my old boys brigade company camp. We used to cook 2 hot meals a day for 40 people on an open fire. All the Dixie's used for cooking had a small chunk of wood floating in the top, apparently to take up the wood smoke. Can't really say how effective it was but worth a try...
