Never personally seen the point (no pun intended)
I always prefer edge as close up to the handle or guard as possible for control and You can still choke up on a 4 1/2" - ish blade safely without the need for ricasso..
But thats just me and how i learnt to use a knife.

I thought the F1 pro was ... OK ... but they had gone a little too thick on the blade for my liking.
Looking for a fallkniven F1 micarta variant...
Firstly youll be pleased to know that most bikes now have a minimum 10 cog rear cluster.
Sounds like a 32-12, 10 or 11 speed on the back might suit you ratio wise. With probably a 2x upfront.
Whats your budget? That's the big decider to narrow it down.
A "gravel" bike might be good.

He was a good man. And survived monte-casino so had a bit of experience. But im guessing that advice was quite a standard in his day as ive heard a few variations since . Still glad he drummed it into me though.
Also maybe i should add that my rig that lives with this blade all the time includes the basic necessities.

- Oil Cloth in a Ziploc bag. For maintenance. Not used yet. A microfibre cloth heavily impregnated with VP90 shotgun oil.

80CrV2 however is an oustanding sweet spot steel for toughness, edge retention etc.
It contains more chromium than O1 but not enough to be considered stainless obviously.
Its not the maintenance nightmare you might think.
