    Hickory timber supplier ?

Yep hickory is difficult to find as lumber and expensive. Ash is much more common and cheaper as a result. I just had a quick look at Yandles’ website and they don’t list any hickory right now.

    Hickory timber supplier ?

I’ve bought some half decent boards from Yandles down here in Somerset, in my case for bows or bow backings. So I’ve been fairly fussy about grain etc. If you’re making handles you could be be a bit less strict which would help as you’d be ordering online I suppose.

Oh yes :) There are a lot of us about, and a few on here at least. I’m NFAS too, and shoot with Windwhistle Company of Archers here in Somerset.

YouTube channel “A Day In The Life”

I just stumbled across this Japan-based channel. The content includes a lot of hunting and meat prep (but no actual slaughter as far as I can see) so I thought it would be best here. The videos are beautifully filmed, and in the main part are not tainted with irritating music or inane...

Skirret : Anyone got any seeds to share?

Hi All, my interest has been piqued to try and grow some skirret - Sium sisarum. It’s a medieval vegetable in the parsnip family, which produces long, slim white roots. These roots are evidently quite sweet and can be eaten raw or cooked. The small white flowers are apparently sweetly scented...

    Calling Digital Music Aficionados

“JRiver” app for windows is highly regarded amongst audiophiles. It rips CDs and plays just about any audio format. Ripping speed depends upon CD drive/transport quality, hard disk read/write speed, processor speed and available memory.

    Kuksa with colour.

Ah right - Birchwood Casey Tru Oil. Never tried it myself but it’s popular with bowyers in the States, and particularly on Osage orange wood. Cheers.

Who still wears a Swanndri ranger shirt ?

I just got one for Christmas. I think it’s gonna be a spring/autumn outdoor wear for me. Particularly for any kind of activity where there’s a lot of movement - synthetic fleeces make me sweat a lot in that kind of use.

    Gluing metal to leather?

I think I’d use a flexible contact adhesive such as Wilko Leather glue. Even better if you can hide a stitch for extra security as well.

    New favourite firewood

Hi Hugh, I hear what you’re saying but it’s a bit of a haul from here on the Somerset/Devon border :) Note though that two pieces, 3 feet in length are more than enough to make a bow! If anyone’s cut any clean yew/laburnum/walnut/elm/ etc in the W Somerset area and wants rid, I’d be happy to...
