Chris Packham’s dad strongly recommends it. Shredded leaves laid across a peanut butter sandwich.

Anyone else from the forum coming along? If so I’ll see you there on Saturday :)

    Best anti-tick clothing ?

I can’t vouch for the amount of noise that quails make, but apparently you can often raise one or two from say a dozen bought eggs, e.g from Waitrose et al, by incubating the eggs. I can however vouch for the racket made by Guinea fowl though - they too are very good at foraging for all kinds...

    Learning how to do nålbindning

Where is this place? I’m not really much into weaving but I’ve been looking for a spoon carving course. If it’s close for you then it won’t be far for me either. Cheers, Bob

Fruits in alcohol, what are you busy concocting?

I let it steep for 5-6 weeks and then tried it. It was pink and rhubarb-y but not such a strong flavour as I’d hoped. Shortly after the taste test our blackcurrants were ready, so I added a handful of those to the main steeping jar. I then divided the resulting dark liquid into smaller 125ml...

    Spring has Sprung

3x Mallards in our garden, 1 female/2 males. They have been around for as few weeks. Found a nest with 8x eggs in it too, tucked in a very quiet corner of our garden. Odd because we dont have much/any open water bigger than a seed tray.

    A test of splitting technique!

As time goes by, I find this to be more and more true myself…..

    Whats this then?

Looks like a film developing container to me. You wind the film into the spiral in a bag or complete darkness, and then add developer, etc etc.

    The “Isn't Life Great” thread

Kewl. I’m looking for new places to explore on two wheels, when the weather has warmed a little. The coasts, north and south, are my usual targets for exploration with a nice lunch stop, and I can incorporate a nice countryside hoon at the same time.

    Tool Box Inventory

What’s wrong with that? :) I have two different workshop storage areas - one for hardwood offcuts, and another for everything else. Very useful and often raided, as wood etc becomes ever more expensive. My suggestion for the list would be : trays of stainless bolts, washers and nuts (including...

    Fire side snifters

Tonight I’m having a large, oak cask aged cider spirit with a single piece of ice. I bought it after a very interesting and free distillery tour at Fowey Valley in Lostwithiel, Cornwall a couple of weeks back. It’s very different for me, and pretty smooth for only being 2 years old. Evidently...

What Food Combo's Do You Eat That Others Think Are Weird

In the summer, fresh British strawberries with a good grind of black pepper over them. Yum!

    Tape

Stretchy, slightly sticky tape? I can recommend ’Tape, Self Amalgamating’ as originally supplied by BT, back in the days when I was an employee. I still have a roll and a half, and it’s so dang useful. Some other supplier must still have it available…. I use it for emergency repairs on...

    Recommend me a cordless drill

DeWalt 18vdc brushless for me. It always seems to have charge to spare; it’s comparatively lightweight; it has an illuminator LED at the bottom of the handle which shines just where you want it, and I haven’t had anything stop it so far; variable speed and torque. I could go on :) I do have a...

What excites you about spring arriving?

Getting the KTMs out again after their winter sleep. My motorcycling these days is pleasure only, but I do get a bit crotchety when I can’t get out for a ride. So I’m probably not in the best frame of mind o_Oo_O

Antler for Sammi knife sheath ?

Aye, only red deer antler in dog chew bins. Reindeer antlers and crowns are very nice, but more difficult to get hold of in blighty.

Antler for Sammi knife sheath ?

Look at dog chew bins in pet shops, they often include antler pieces of various sizes. Some craft shops in country areas have them. Otherwise look at the usual suppliers such as Brisa (www.brisa.Fi) or similar.
