    Your picture of the day...

Yeah, love the trip to Åland and back! Our friends have a place overlooking the archipelago near the ferry stop at Koviksudde.

    Leather Quiver

Very nice indeed. Field or target? I only ask because for field I like to have a side pocket for tabs/strings/string wax etc. Oh, and a built-in sheath for a knife for those awkward tree/target frame/arrow interface moments :)

    And sometimes ……..

Ever since I saw a grey with a fledgling songbird in its mouth I have no compunction at all in despatching them - efficiently and cleanly of course. OTOH, the reds are to be revered and enjoyed, but Ive never seen them away from a reserve.

    Cheese With Hot Dog?

On a Cumberland or good ole pork sossidge, then yes a slice of cheddar melted over it would be most acceptable. I would not consider anything else of a similar form offered even as a comestible.

    Food preserving gift ideas

Crudités, tzatziki? We have a lot too (Mini Munch, Emilie F1, Carmen F1). Excess are pickled in various spices and we eat what we can fresh. Delicious!

    Extendable pruning saw suggestion

I gaffer taped my Laplander to an extendable decorating pole I got in Wickes. That worked well to cut back a load of over growth in our silver birch and beech trees when we first moved in…..and was easy/cheap :)

Is a psk really needed in the UK?

We obviously need more Guinea fowl. They eat anything insect based, and particularly ticks etc.

    Archery - variable range

This. If you have an enduring interest, joining a club will give you a lot of practical help, insurance, coaching, and access to woodlands where courses and practice butts are setup for safe shooting. As a member, I’d suggest a club that is part of the National Field Archery Society...

Where do you recomend for Kydex supplies

Funnily enough I received a regular email from Brisa.FI today, and they have started stocking kydex materials and accessories. I realise they won’t send blades but maybe they’ll do the kydex stuff? See Brisa Kydex Stuff

BcUK Photograph of 2023 June Heat Winner

Thanks all! When the rabbits are that young (just emerged into the garden), they are quite trusting and unsuspecting of humans. This one liked to sit in the morning sunshine with the pot for a wind screen. Quite smart really :)

    What are you growing?

So far we are eating: Parsnips Raspberries (Glut so may make some rasp gin, MORE jam, crumbles, fruit leather) Blackcurrants (as for rasps!) Strawberries, seemingly all done now. French beans - bush and climbing planted together, making good use of limited space Peas - Jaguar and Marrowfat...

    What are you preserving?

Well, the weather wasn’t ideal to follow my other outdoor pursuits yesterday, so I revisited Hugh’s (@British Red ) recipe for caramelised onion chutney. It is quite time intensive, and makes the kitchen smell (nice or otherwise, depends upon your point of view :)), but the results are well...

    Restoring chisels questions

Ok, thanks again all. I’ve sharpened, cleaned and oiled the blades by hand as i go along, and they seem to be taking a good edge. Only time and use will show if they’ve been abused on a wheel enough to lose their hardness. The handles will take a bit if work to get rid of the hammered wood, but...

    Restoring chisels questions

Thanks all for the suggestions. I haven’t had much time to have a go at them yet. For the handles I think I’m leaning toward removing any sharp edges and filling cracks with super runny CA glue. I’m only expecting to use these as hand pushed tools, or with a leather faced mallet at the very...

    Restoring chisels questions

Hi All, Yesterday SWMBLT and I went to a local auction with some friends from our village. There was a lot of dross, but I bid for and bought this box of chisels and the like: I was quite happy to get some tools at a very good price - super cheap. All of the items need sharpening of course...

    Archery Target - Foam

I can’t see that rolling would work as well as compressing strips. It’s also far more likely to come undone as the material starts to wear. Commercial backstops are usually made of strips of foam up to 30cm/12” across, reinforced with wooden top and bottom frames, and then compressed (very...
