I've got 3 of the extendable pole pruners. Broke the blades on the first 2 but I've repurposed them for fruit picking etc. I haven't seen anything else as neat but wish the blades were stronger.
Currently reading A Canticle For Leibowitz which was one of the sources of inspiration for the Fallout franchise. The book opens with a monk scavenging from an underground bunker in a desert in post nuclear apocalypse USA with the looming threat of mutant creatures.
It definitely captures the essence of the game but they've held back a lot of factions/creatures/etc for the next series. Might ditch Prime for a while now because there's not much else on it that interests me and the ads are annoying.

I just used a metal vice on that occasion. I carved the bottom of the bowl first but left an extra tall 'foot' on the base which the vice could grip when it came to the hollowing out. There are other ways such as making a bodger's vice with some wood offcuts and a couple of wedges. A workmate...
I made this matching pair, one on a lathe and the other by power carving. Interestingly they took about the same amount of time. I keep meaning to do a third all with hand tools.
You could try making a gum blanket with as lightweight a cloth as possible, not sure if that's what Roger meant? It still won't be anything like as light as a plastic fabric unfortunately.
