    corona virus projects any one?

Learning to cast a 15' fly rod is going to take up most of my time, I think :)

    Spring has sprung

It really has! Sprung, I mean. The weather is gorgeous here. Though I was watching some geese flying South yesterday. Character standing next to me remarked that she hoped they were simply mistaken and going the wrong way

    What did you buy today?

Good today, it was! New MSR Revo Ascent Snow Shoes plus a preloved, 15', 10-12wt Bruce and Walker fly rod in terrific, nearly unused shape ... not only all that, but a little Opinel #8 that came with the shoes. :)

What would you forage in your local area?

Fiddleheads are good. Earthy and chewy. They'll be selling them in the shops here soon. I like them fried a bit in bacon fat ... but then I could probably eat my own toes if they were fried in bacon fat. Dandylion greens will show up in shops in a couple of months too. They benefit from similar...

    Spring has sprung

Starlings have been singing away happily for a few days now. Personally, I dread this a bit as the snow's going to melt ... but I only dread it a bit. I am a cool weather plant.

    A cracked Potje

Dunno about that Nomad64 ... I feel fairly sure that Santaman can punch his weight in an exchange, and there is a sticks and stones things comes to mind regarding internet discourse conducted from the armchair, in any case. All he said was that 18 gallons isn't as great a volume as you...

What would you forage in your local area?

Foodwise: you get salmon coming out of your ears, trout, perch, blueberries, blackberries are big here, also salmon berries, mountain tea, lots of clams and mussels, seaweed, birch and maple sap, fiddleheads soon ... lots of stuff There's mushrooms, but they are keeners here, so I only ever get...

    A cracked Potje

It can be quite cheap here, cast iron. I got a green enamelled dutch oven for $40 which is great and used for everything (here in Vancouver), but the enamel is, though not exactly fragile, it's not super tough and you can see that. It was made somewhere in Michigan. We have a pile of Le Creuset...

    What did you buy today?

Oh, Oh but hold on a bit. I just been reading that the diamonds scrape off. For some reason I thought that the diamonds were like embedded in a ceramic matrix. Are they on tape/laminate?

    Home made Thorn proof dressing?

They look good, rustic and wholesome, but I think you'll find it very uncomfortable and not a little sweaty .. not ideal for working in On the other hand, if you can find Carhartt double-fronted work trousers and just wax the outer layer, you may be on to a winner

    Hat recommendations please

Frankly I don't wear much else but those Ray Mears possum things, of which we musy have a dozen, the kids loving them so. But I would give another vote for a Radar jeep cap.

    Home made Thorn proof dressing?

It is a dressing for thornproof garments which helps make the garments thornproof by making the cotton less ready to snag on twigs etc. It is a combination effort, like milk in tea.

    Home made Thorn proof dressing?

Mmmm ... cheese :) (BTW, best way to apply Barbour dressing is to heat the can in a waterbath then use a brush to paint it on to the garment whilst keeping the hairdryer working on it. You get that factory, napped finish that way; rather than the (equally appealing) glazed look you get when...
