    Going for damsons then? They just seem so . . . ugly I'll go back at the weekend and cut one open.

    I did think they represented almonds - I have seen fresh almonds only in a turkish market. But in the north of England? Something like peaches or apricot? I know they are related to almonds. Sorrry I didnt get a cross section of the fruit. I'll revisit sometime.

    Thanks for your help on this, I'm a moreless beginner Found in Scotland today. I took one home and cut it open - there were at least a dozen and i saw them in different places. If I find out its edible I'll wish I took a couple!
