    SWAP: My DC4 for a smaller DC3

I've got a DC4 that seems just a little too large to slip into my pocket. I've got one of Shep's great field sharpening kits to put in a bag, but would like to try the smaller DC3 for more of an everyday carry to have along with my SAK.

For 40 Years, This Russian Family Was Cut Off From All Human Contact

That's a fascinating story, and probably a good message to send out to most who dream of a Walden-like life of living off the land: it's tough. With regards to living away from large communities, there's something referred to as 'Dunbar's number' which is the number of people individuals can...

    Bushcraft field survey?

You could get in touch with the people at Plantlife, as they carry out a national wildflower count every year. I'm sure they'd be interested in giving you some advice and possibly seeing the results. Same might be true for the Woodland Trust, Mammal Society, RSPB and Buglife. I'm pretty...

    What should i pack

I'd pack spare inner tubes instead of a repair kit. Easier to put a new tube in whilst out and about, you can always patch the old one once you're back home.

    Do not walk!

+1 on the soft star shoes, except they're not really waterproof. Great for feeling like you're not making as much of an impact as you would in boots.

    Countryside management principles

I hoping there are some folks who can point me in the right direction on where to find some good reading on countryside management principles. I'm doing some voluntary work for my local wildlife trust and fancy learning a bit more about the subject.

    And yet, Another Bucksaw

Nice, I've got a blade ready to make one of these. What other metal parts did you use?

    Swanndri help

I've got the Ranger and really like it. I haven't tried the Bison or the Bushshirt but find the ranger to be plenty tough and more versatile than I imagine the bushshirt to be.

    A strange find.

Looking for advice for engagement / wedding ring carving wood...

Similar to mountainm I've used wood a similar diameter to the ring, that way you end up with a ring that made up of a couple of growth rings, which, in my experience has turned out stronger than other options. I've made rings out of oak, hawthorn, sycamore, holly, ash and cherry. I think holly...
