One knife or different knives for different occasions?

Victorinox Huntsman and Morakniv Bushcraft seem to meet my camping needs. The Huntsman or a Spartan usually find their way into my pocket each day.

Let’s see your cook kits in use.

Just trying out a couple of things before packing them into the woods. Terava Jaakaripuukko 140, and Sterno folding stove with a ventilated plate to use it as a budget folding twig stove. Dutch canteen cup and Stanley pot are known quantities already. Terava processed wood well. Made decent...

    MORA Knife ?

As others have said. Adding a fire steel of good size is an easy do it yourself project. Som decent sheet plastic, riggers tape and a quick wrap of parador and you are set. Having a decent sharpening tool separate seems better to me.

USGI, and Crusader cups were on this past weekend outing. Used the Trangia and Crusader cook stand, as well as an inexpensive butane burner from Amazon.

    Paddling near Mt. St. Helens

Yes, the mountain lost about (edit) 1,000 feet (300 meters) of elevation as the peak and north face of the mountain blew out. The glacier melted instantly, creating a lot of mud flow

I can uncomfortably feel every thread in my socks whilst hiking.

Footwear fit is going to be critical. Every shoe manufacturer builds 5heir boots on a shoe last (foot shape) that they create. Took a long time to find a boot that “just felt right” right out of the box. It is a fine line between having a boot that has ample room to accommodate foot swelling...

    Stretching a Tilley Hat??

When I would wash my uniform covers (hats), I had a item known as a cover block. It was sheet metal and adjustable to different hat sizes. I would take my cover out of the wash and let it dry overnight on the cover block. Once dry, the size was set.

    What's for Supper?

Working on it. Smoked Tri-tip roast using mesquite wood. Grilled zucchini and yellow squash on the side. Got another hour or so, before the meat comes to temperature in the smoker. BBQ season is back.

Dutch side pouch daypack day hike. (Featuring other Dutch gear)

Took the 10L side pouches from my Dutch Strike pack and zipped them together into daypack configuration. Clipped my Dutch canteen and cup onto the outside. Tossed in an emergency blanket and Dutch poncho. Added an MRE entre and a cat can burner. Then I hit a local forestry road for a walk and...
