    Hobby Fusion

Folks, A friend of mine is keen to hear about people's projects using their skills to create new stuff. In particular, the theme is fusing hobbies, where someone uses one set of skills to equip themselves for their other hobbies. He has set up a website at www.pinventor.co.uk Rob is hoping to...

    Fly fishing books

I'd be interested Tengu. I'd mainly go for the prosey travelogue philosophical kind rather than instructional books. Also might consider tying books.

    All Air Camping Mats

Thanks for that. It sounds like a thumbs up. The exped mats seem to cope fine even without any filling.

    All Air Camping Mats

There seems to be a new trend for camping mats that you blow up and have little or no insulation in them. I like the idea since they are super light. But are they just glorified lilos? Does anyone have any experience with the likes of the alpkit numo or the multimat air ranges? I would use them...

Do I need a dedicated laptop rucksack?

I've kept all kinds of laptops in regular rucksacks just in a padded sleeve. I always put them flat up against the back and put something soft between them and anything pointy and have never had a problem. Your radio Bergan sounds cool, I'd like to see what that looks like.

    Dave Cantebury discussing Dual survival

I watched episode one of the new DS series on YouTube yesterday. The new guy Teti shows the mental fortitude you would expect from his service record but little of the common sense or knowledge you would expect of a 'survival expert'. His knife is pretty good reflection of this - holy cow!!

What features makes the "best" bushcraft knife?

The reason lots of people go for scandi is that is easier to sharpen than convex or other grinds. This is especially the case for people new to such things - if you're used to convex then that won't be a problem. People who know more than me have written at length about this, but there are...

What features makes the "best" bushcraft knife?

I'm afraid that is true. If you don't know what you want, it will be hard to get the right custom knife for you. You might find after a year or two with your custom knife you wish you'd made that blade a little shorter/longer thicker/ thinner. I make my own and started off with a 3mm Woodie...

Waterstone and Leather Strop Field Sharpening Kits - November 2012

It's just part of the join between the 2 sides of the stone. If you find a use for it do let me know! There'll be more next year. I have to pluck up the gumption to fill my workshop/ nostrils with dust in order to make them so there's usually a few months between batches.

Yes, I've shipped them to USA and Canada so Ireland should be no bother.
