I found a combo that works
I use an ni patrol pack and dpm webbing with a DPM gasmask bag attached to the ni pack.
In it I have my army reversible softies
A 2 season sleeping bag and dpm bivi bag.
A hammock and tree huggers
A 58 poncho
Some simple paracord 6mm I think
Some bungees

I went out with my new ni patrol pack and had a shakedown with it then a short walk back.
I found it hurt my shoulders a bit after a short walk but it's probably because I didn't use the waist belt
Don't forget red cedar bark. Scrape with a sharp rock or the back of your knife to collect a fibrous bird nest. Drop an ember in there from cramp balls or plant down and add to your dry grass
i just love how basic it is but how diy and versatile it is with all the big long straps.
i attatched some bankline on the frame so i can collect wood using the frame with the pack detatched.

i have a couple of gear items from helicon tex and yes they do seem to be quolity. i may have a look at the jacket. i have a temp solution that i think will offer a nice stop gap till i can afford a nice jacket.
