    Group first aid kit

Thanks for that. That's helped a lot, I'll start shopping. The basic course I did was a two day course with the Japanese Red Cross that mainly deals with CPR, breaks and sprains and applying tourniquets, we also had a go with a CAT tourniquet too. The others are far more trained than me due to...

    Group first aid kit

Thanks for the replies. Basically the area is a government owned campsite in woods which allow fires. One of us is a nurse. I have basic first aid training and one of the others have WAFA (wilderness advanced first aid) first aid training. The activities with the most risk is fires and the knife...

    Group first aid kit

Hi all. I'm running some courses later on in the year and trying to prepare a group first aid kit. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to put in? I have basic first aid training and there is also a nurse that will be supporting and mainly taking of any first aid if needed. Any...

    boot care

I did a search on this but could find anything. I need to clean my boots and was wondering what the sort or stuff people use? I've heard that some kinds of polish can rot the stitching on your boots and that natural bees wax is better. Can anyone recommend a good wax or anything?

    Looks can be deceiving

I peeled the acorns, roughly ground them up, then just checked them in a bowl and changed the water morning and night. It took about 10 days to do, I just kept checking the water when I was throwing it away. When it stopped changing colour each wash, I dried them on a tray. You can dry them on a...

    Looks can be deceiving

Not sure if this is the right forum as it turned out more like a crusty mess than lovely grub! We had a go at making some acorn bread a few weeks ago. It took about 10 days to process the acorns, so whether it looked like a turd or not, I was going to eat it! It tasted nice, a little dry as you...

    Bushcraft Confessions ! ( I'm a bit crap at....)

The patience of getting ready for a fire. I start out thinking I will get all my tinder, kindling, small sticks etc. then I just get bored with looking for it. After I light it I am running round like a headless chicken trying to find stuff to get it going. Feather sticks are the same, make a...

Working with a swiss army knife woes!!!

i tried to tap a tree with a folding knife once... it hurt! After that, I put the blade against the tree, folded the handle down then tapped on the joint. After doing that, I never had a problem. probably not too good for the knife though.

Is there really any need for camoflage?

Living where I do and being the only "gaijin" around, it doesn't matter what I wear, they look at me whatever. but when I go into the fjallraven shop and see an olive wool jumper for 30,000 yen which is about 230 pounds, and I can order a surplus one from the UK for 15 pounds, then I know what I...

    upcoming adventures any body?

Off tomorrow for a one nighter in the mountain near me. I'm leaving off early so I can get some good time to practice things instead of the usual rush around setting up camp and getting the dinner on. I did have a nice trip planned to go on a course back in the UK, but that went up the pan when...

How do you start your fires?

I usually use a fire steel with lint from the washing machine. I have used a bamboo fire saw a couple of times too.
