    Long Evenings. What do you do?

    By sound or light? I used to be handy at light signals, a slow professional speed, but never learned to do it by sound. Quite a different skill set oddly enough. Best of luck, it's fun once you get into it. Like knots, it needs regular practice to keep you sharp.

    Quite a few people I camp with seem to sleep with their clothes on when out in the woods overnighting, others go for thermal underwear, some, allegedly, just sleep as nature intended them to be. I go for the thermals route myself, but it's never fun getting changed out of campfire cosy clothing...

The story of an American seaman in the 1830s who sailed round the horn to California (then still owned by the Mexicans) and how life on the Californian coast was in those times. A truly fascinating read and one I will return to. I...
