Respirator mask, help me pick one please!

I used to be an Inspector with the HSE - we were issued with 3m stuff, which I guess means it was the cheapest stuff that did the job ;-) If you're just grinding, FFP2 will be sufficient, if you're welding stainless you might want to look at extraction due to the chromium content. Disposables...

    Saltpeter...

Just watching Ray Mears (again!) on BBC 4 I fancy having a go at making Steven King's fire lighting kit, and Ray talks about soaking the cotton in saltpeter... ...now, as I'm sure we're all aware saltpeter has a number of uses - I don't fancy the 5am knock on the door from the men in black...

    backpack recomendations

I bought one of these http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/usrsb1nx.html a few months back - for £29 I really can't grumble. First one was faulty, but Flecktarn were spot on and replaced it with no hassle. Really like the fact that I can get to everything without unloading the pack. Comfortable and...

    A Decent 40L Rucksack?

    Hill Descent Control (Freelander)

Nowt wrong with a freelander! Comfy on the road, mine's never let me down... ...oh, and it outclimbed a Disco III on a wet grassy slope (~1:3)

    Hill Descent Control (Freelander)

Concur it only 'works' in first and reverse - I was really excited to try it, went off-roading with AROC and was disappointed - it's rubbish :-) Car is very capable, it's just that you're better off with your right foot covering the brake. Sorry to burst your bubble, all of the above is IMHO...

    Forest of Dean wild camp.

Never camped there, but vaguely remember a program on BBC about deer - the rangers had thermal imaging (not just night vision) to help track them! Of course, that could have been just for the telly... ...and I might have mis-remembered the location HTH :-) Simon ps. hope you have fun...

    MOLLE Backpack

I realise that this isn't an answer to your question, but I got one of these a few months ago http://www.flecktarn.co.uk/usrsb1nx.html First one needed to be swapped as the back panel was not sewed on straight and one strap was twisted - excellent service from Flecktarn and no quibble. Pack...

Food for Thought PODCAST - Andy McNab

Very interesting, thanks for the heads up! Simon

    BG and Miranda

I was disappointed in that it didn't really show the viewer anything about the 'how', it was much more about the personalities - like one minute they're both abseiling, the next BG is at the bottom coiling up the rope! How'd he get it down? Also, where did all of that wood come from - I'm sure...

    my new project

That looks REALLY nice. I checked their website, but it's a bit sparse - any ideas where I can get a bit more info on the kits available? Simon

    Diy question: plaster board

I use these http://www.screwfix.com/p/metal-redidrivas-35mm-pack-of-100/11923;jsessionid=wly6TC0GZLpH46S2Vx6DNJwFjyznzHdGXFGkmJh6Wpdgqtcd18Tq!-395938745 never had one fail yet. I use a 13mm flat bit first, to a depth of 1-2mm so it all sits nice and neat and flush without cracking the...
