I couldn't find a pattern I liked so I'm going to attempt to design it myself. The gabardine arrived this morning. It's a very strong green colour but seems good quality. It's quite heavy. Now I need to think about how long to make it - below my bum I think. And do I make it pull on or zip...

I want to make one for myself having had heart failure at the prices of these but I'm not too sure about fabric quality. I understand that true gabardine has waterproof and breathable qualities but how do I tell true gabardine? Is this likely to be any good or am I wasting my money...

My experience of using machine dyes is that you'd need a lot of this for a canvas tarp. One certainly wouldn't do it.

I've noticed there is loads more choice of style on American websites. I like the look of the fedora. :D This could end up costing me a fortune. And I'd love an Aussie kangaroo leather one............. Oh god.......... :(

Banana and carrots leave grey marks behind if baby clothes were anything to go by when my kids were small! And NOTHING would wash it out! Beetroot is good if you want that sort of colour - not terribly clever if you're going for subtle camoflage tho unless you're hiding against .... nope can't...
