    Mini rocket stoves

I made a small rocket stove from 2" box section steel in an 'L' shape with a separator in the horizontal section to separate air flow and fuel feed. It worked well enough to boil water - eventually - but required almost constant attention (blowing air through a tube) and the flame burned only...

    Coleman 285 lantern

Hi, Does anyone have a lot of experience with petrol lanterns and/or is a phycisist? I'm having quite a bit of trouble with mine as a result of leaving it half full of fuel for 2 years. First problem was: would light ok, but lost pressure and cut out after less than a minute. I concluded...

Wild Australia with Ray Mears series

I've been off this forum for a long time, but as I remember it, Ray Mears seemed to be revered to a god-like status. Refreshing to see alternative views (whether or not I agree with them). Personally, I was attracted to what we are now calling bushcraft from an early age, but moved up a gear or...

    Coleman Petrol lantern

I bought a Coleman Dual Fuel lantern (twin mantle type) sometime in the 90s before the widespread adoption of LED changed the game for lanterns and torches. I also bought a Coleman camping stove around the same time, attracted by the idea of a cheap and readily available common fuel source, ie...

    Sweden

As a counter to your slogan, I remember: 'Better to remain quiet and let everyone think you a fool than to open your mouth and leave them in no doubt':lmao:

    Bushcrafty Music

This is, after all, a Bushcraft site so I am not surprised by the lack of enthusiasm in the OP. However, your choice in music means that I would not mind in the least listening to your CD around the campfire. But, surely, the song of choice must be Come by Ah??

    Sweden

Haha! I hear that a lot. But back to Bushcraft UK (as opposed to the bureaucratic difficulties of living in Sweden) does anyone know why I am still unable to post pictures?

    Sweden

Thanks for the tips Ron. I did try to sign up for SFI, but they refused point blank unless I have a permanent Personal Number - which takes us back to the Arbetsformedlingen, Skatteverket, etc. So I am trying to learn from a book and perhaps now online too.

Death Caps and the rest: the really poisonous mushroom thread

I have picked and eaten wild mushrooms even as a child. When, as an adult, I read about Death Caps and Destroying Angels (if only the names where printed on them :)) I stopped picking mushrooms. Now I am living in Sweden and picking mushrooms here is a national pastime. I was given a huge bag...

Survival is all about a good cup of tea

I find that whisky works best... you don't even need to boil water :o

    Sweden

Pictures, as I mentioned, are a bit of a problem. Someone said I need 10 posts so I'm working on it :) As for work, I'd consider almost anything, but my best chance, I think, is in something woodwork-related. I am calling myself a carpenter (well, snickrar)

How to Sharpen an Axe - Picture Heavy

This all makes sense and I have no doubt that it works. However, I bought a Hultafors axe which came sharp enough to shave with (well, almost). I have kept it sharp by frequent use of a Fiskars ceramic sharpener of the type you draw the blade through. This seems to be working perfectly, although...

    The Science of Water

Excellent post, most informative. But my personal solution is to stick to drinking beer:)

    Sweden

As for the winter... everyone delights in telling me it can reach minus 30C. Can't say I'm looking forward to that! I am living in Vasteras, but everyone seems to think that Dalarna is the most beautiful part of Sweden - I have been there a few times, but no further north than Mora (where the...
