Simple Prehistoric Bowmaking, help please gents?

Hello, I'm handy with steel and spanners, it's what I do for a living. But for a while I've wanted to make myself a bow. I really enjoy using traditional skills, methods, tools and materials. I really enjoy history, especially my local history which includes some of the first people to cross...

    Alternatives to OS Maps?

Harvey Maps seem pretty good, but unfortunately they do not cover Norfolk. OS maps are great, i've spent days pouring over them appreciating the effort and detail, but I was just wondering if there was any other type out there available?

    Building a small forge

Hey Chris. Roughly how deep is that pan? I'm a lil' concerned that once you've insulated it (which I imagine you're going to do) and put fuel in it, you won't have any depth left?

What's your favourite trick, cheat or adaptation?

For those of you who use a Trangia or alcohol stove, try using nail polish remover as it's easily available from most shops, cheap and comes in nice small bottles, enough for a few nights camping. It's also good for cleaning your nails Cleaning the sticky gooo off of pots that have been on the...

    An evening with Ray Mears.

Isn't it strange how one man can make a bunch of middle aged blokes act like teenage girls at a Justin Bieber concert? :p

A new addition to my Bushy past times!

Air Arms, great guns. I've got an S210 MK2. What glass you got? You can't beat going out and bagging your own meat to cook over the fire. I'd highly recommend Rabbit Jerky with plenty of Salt. I've recently got a Silenced .410 folding shotgun. Lovely little thing and it's as quiet as a spring...

Having a quick brew up in the woods.

Any particular reason why? Time, effort, or the fact that you have to harvest good firewood and leave a burn scar on this ground? I don't like leaving a scar so I always light my fire under the ridge of a sandbank, the sort of place in the wood's that you'll often find a warren or fox den...

    Spoon and condiments....

As far as condiments go, i've always used a 1950's issue stainless kfs set. It has lettle brass tabs so the slide and lock together nicely. But recently I purchased one of the notorious "Sporks", it's great and relatively cheap. I also do not own a spoon knife, but have managed to successfully...

    Free to good home!!

I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to your pm's. I've been working ridiculous hours recently and haven't been able to travel to collect. Thankyou anyway and i'm sure it'll go to a good home. :) Sorry Weekender for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Having a quick brew up in the woods.

Yesterday afternoon I took a nice stroll into a local woods. For the first time I can say that I made a quick and efficient fire and enjoyed a nice cuppa. I'm not the best at tree identification, but I think it was Ash that I used. It was standing, long dead and almost to the point of rotting...

    Blacksmithing Help.

Well after a day forging I've made a few tool hooks for the side of the forge, a much needed coal rake thingy and several tyre levers. As suggested, I used crushed up coal. I still havent got hold of an anvil yet so I have improvised with a 56 weight ratchet strapped to many large logs. :) It's...

    Blacksmithing Help.

Thanks Juttle. I'm not a big fan of knife making, so I intend on making slightly bigger stuff. I aim to one day be able to make my own set of tongs. :) In that case I'll make an anvill out of an old forklift tine. They're good steel. Is the charcoal expensive?
