I think I have abandoned the 3 ounce restriction. K9 I really like the picture of your chosen drink. That's always worth a thousand words.

    Big Medicine saves the day!!

Hello All!! Had an interesting trip this weekend and I thought I would give a quick overview. So our local Search and Rescue group was doing an overnight training trip and I was asked to come along. There are a few rules on these trips that are designed to simulate an unplanned overnight...

Thanks for the warning Santaman. I will make sure not to pack any ice, and will avoid any if this vile temptation should present itself!!

Ha Ha Ha!! Yes, I can see that being a problem. I will have to keep an eye on that.

I like the suggestions to up the volume. I have a small "larder" that contains all of my consumables. However, the right drink might justify a small flask. My plan is that the supplies live in the pack. I know alcohol in general keeps well for years. Has anyone heard of any issues with...

    Spices and other stuff

Yes Robson. I read about the C134 in the news. I see you recommended the Pojar book. I agree it's an excellent source of info. I also pick up anything by Nancy Turner when it comes to indigenous use of plants. I was told that sour grass makes a passable lemon substitute but I have never...

Santaman that recipe sounds highly intruiging. I just bought a pound of powdered butter. Do you think this would work in a pinch as a substitute for real butter?

    Spices and other stuff

I am going to have to try the suggestions mentioned here. Maybe I will film the process so you all can see how it turns out. First up will be chinook salmon with a stinging nettle side dish. I can't think of what might work for a starch/ potato rice substitute.

I was going to ask this on my earlier thread, however I thought it warranted it's own discussion. As I stated in the spices post, I am trying to add a few creature comforts into my sub 15 pound bushcraft pack. I have allotted myself 3 ounces for alcohol (not to be used for dis-infect ant if...

Consider it done. I will pick some up and try it over the next couple of days. Thanks for the tip. I've never tried this spice. I do really enjoy other Zatarans products such as the black bean and rice mixture.

Hello All, I am sure this has already been discussed however I did a quick search and didn't find anything. I am trying to get my pack under 15 pounds but still have everything I need not just to survive, but to enjoy my time in the bush. My wife is often with me and she doesn't appreciate...
