    Roughly followed an old video of Green Pete, into wood burner last thing at night, left it till next morning. Heated it red hot, quenched in oil, then reheated till straw colour at edge, quenched again. So far so good......

    Had a few hours to escape today, rounded up some odds and ends, them made these.[/URL][/IMG] Top is a black buffalo tip, then piece of antler capped with buffalo, then some scrap mahogany. Some sanding and polishing, little bit of oil, Shiny [/URL][/IMG]

    If you were making a crook handle from buffalo horn, you would need to boil it for about an hour, thinner horn can be heated gently with a hot air gun, it softens, then it is quite "bendable" you just need to watch you don't scorch it, a wipe of veg oil helps spread the heat and stop scorching

    Buffalo horn is solid at the end, it varies but you can get solid horn at least a foot long, the pith is still solid, it just has more random white streaks, this just adds to the character.     I don't really know, it came off a beach near Skipness, on the Firth of Clyde, near where the Isle of Arran ferry docks at Cloanig. It could be oak as it was extremely hard. Hope to fill it with Bruichladdich, well maybe not fill it, cos it holds 1/2 a pint !!
