    Vist to Tarp Hat importer

I seem to remember buying mine after hearing about yours! I love mine, but I've had to glue the hem around the wire rim back in a few places - the stitching didn't last. A bit of superglue sorted it though. I've also got a bit of rust on the wire, but nothing serious.

    More Mora Or Less Mora???

I have two, and they are very different. One came from the Ray Mears shop and has a semi-polished, flat(ish) spine. The other was from (I think) Hiennie's and it has a rough, unfinished spine. I think retailers buy them in plastic tubs of 50 pieces or cardboard display stands, so I don't think...

Article: Alternatives to paracord - an overview

Good article, thanks. I was put off using dyneema for most 'camp jobs' because of the lack of stretch. I actually like the fact that nylon paracord has some 'give'. I guess my reasoning is that if there is some stretch in the guy line, high winds are less likely to bust my tarp. Horses for...

    Very expensive knives.

And titanium. And ironwood. And silver beading :-) Still too rich for my blood though!

    Fiskars Axe

Exactly. My old fella was a butcher all his life, and for big beef bones or pork bones he always used a Hook-Eye bone saw rather than a blade. I still have it in my shed. Apart from anything else, bone can chip, and getting a bone splinter in your eye as a result of an axe swing is going to be...

    A Lesser Known Prussik Knot

Nice one, thanks. Slide and grip knots are often useful, I'll have a bash at this one. I once found a description of something termed a "Penberthy Prussik" on the outdoor idiots website. The site has gone, and I can't find any reference to it anywhere else.

    Given two old knives

I had one exactly the same as the larger of those two - my uncle bought it for me sometime around 1976. It's still in my mother's house somewhere. I don't have any other information about it though sorry. Mine got properly put through the wringer - I must have made a thousand pointed sticks...

    Magnesium Firestarter Sticks.

I'm impressed with the scraper Steve. Pretty sure I've seen your demo video before and it seems to work really well. Is it home made?

Can I make the twitter/ facebook / g+ things go away

Ghostery gets rid of these for me in Chrome - they seem to come from an "Addthis" widget. I've never seen them before, so I temporarily disabled Ghostery, reloaded the page and up they pop. I agree about Chrome being intrusive, but Firefox has given me loads of grief on my current setup, and...

    Fire

Yes, a few times. I don't do it as a matter of course, since I'm never quite sure if it really is cotton! How sure are you that yours was cotton, and how dry was it?

Why are Duke of Ed people always lost?

I'm all for them being outside, but not under the supervision of people who know less than some of the kids!

Tech help - recommend a broadband router.

Based on the thread title I was about to recommend Draytek too. We've had two (lost the first in a storm, but lasted 5 years). I particularly like the configuration options that allow me to slow the kids' internet connection to a crawl at "10 to bed time" and turn it off completely at "1 minute...

Why are Duke of Ed people always lost?

Probabaly true for many, but some schools here in Wales make it an 'option' for 6th form pupils. I found this out recently while my son was sorting out his GCSE options. You can be very sure that the supervisors are going to be asked some searching questions before he embarks on it. I have some...

My First British Blades Commission...Nightmare LOL!

That's lovely. Really nice work, well done.

    Paracord, reliable UK supplier?

It's too late for the OP now, but I'm not so keen on The Bushcraft Store cord lately (not the Mil-C-5040 stuff which only comes in a few colours, but their "US Contractor grade" stuff). I've had quite a few lots that were baggy and flat, making ugly knots. The best stuff I've had recently is...
