    Man-made vs natural cordage?

I like man made, especially when I can plan ahead and bring my own. I use 7/64" (2.75mm) amsteel / dyneema whoopie slings, 1,600 lbs (725kg) breaking strength for hammock suspension, structural ridgeline, and continuous loops / soft shackles. Slightly smaller in diameter to paracord and doesn't...

Offensive Weapons Act 2019: surrender and compensation scheme. December 2020 - March 2021

I'm sorry you all have to go through this. At least narwhal tusks appear safe, for now!

    Survival Tins - Updates

Sorry, edited the above post for clarity. In the video he uses a bahco brand blade. A 24" bucksaw blade should also fit into a Wazoo survival cache belt with a couple of inches to spare, but abrasion might be an issue long term.

    Survival Tins - Updates

A 24" bucksaw blade will fit into an altoids tin, so it should roll up into a 16cm billy no problem. If you have the time to fashion a bucksaw out of it, that's probably the most robust option. Alternatively, a pocket chainsaw would coil up on the bottom fine, a Coghlans pocket sierra saw...

    Survival Tins - Updates

Speedhooks as Jared indicated, but you can apparently also make your own in a pinch out of large safety pins in an emergency if you have a little multitool and a fishing hook and swivel.

    Saw Blade in Survival Belt?

Wazoo survival cache belts have room for stuff in them, I'd imagine you can stick a saw blade in there. A guy on BCUSA stuck a 24" bowsaw blade in a belt. This guy managed to stick a 24" bucksaw blade in an altoids tin

    Survival Tins - Updates

Most of my emergency items are distributed amongst my pockets these days so I don't often use a tin anymore, but I've enjoyed making tins through the years, finding smaller items and spending time figuring out clever ways to pack them. Here's my take on them... I wanted something pocketable...

    SAWYER MINI FILTER

The mini filter is good for oocysts like cryptosporidium (which are harder to kill chemically but easiest to filter out), and common bacteria that may cause illness, but does not filter viruses. If you happen to be in an area that's heavily populated or a well used park, it's possible that's...

    Ferrocium rod technique

My kit has a Corona carbide knife sharpener with the handle cut down. It's been the best striker I've ever used. As far as technique, I find that holding the striker still, close to the tinder, and then firmly retracting the ferrocerium rod backwards yields pretty good results and reduces the...
