    8th Dutch Bushcraft Weekend - June 14-15, 2008

Hi Jurjen, Yes, in Austerlitz we can have some more people than at the HAPS (where fire regulations limit us to 70 people). We now have a limit at 100. Indeed, last weekend filled up very quickly, but remember that we can often eventually accommodate many people on the wait list too...

camouflage why it works (or not) what insights do any one have on this?

Visual camo is one thing... sounds and behaviour is another... If you disrupt normal ("baseline") behaviour of birds and other animals (especially the vocal ones, e.g. songbirds, squirrels) then you're likely to be revealed by their alarm calls... E.g. sitting in a tree on a squirrel's...

    My Bushcraft Play Area!

Great place - what animals share it with you? ... time to get some good smells going and draw them in - maybe they'll like bushcrafting with their neighbor more than the trampoline after all :-) Live and Love, Anneke

Outdoor Ethics - Leave No Trace

One good way to practice leave no trace is to choose one place as your core area, and try to learn everything you can there. Map it, find where the deer live, where the voles are, where the fox... Learn the trees, the birds, the plants. Map it, enjoy it, learn from it, love it. The longer you...

    What's your favourite tree?

It is the old Cherry in my backyard. With this post I'd like to honor it because it has done so many things for me... - It showed me that this was the house I should buy, by making me feel drawn to the garden so very strongly. - It lightens my heart every year with its beautiful blossoms...

    marmalade/jam

I'm assuming you cut the peel in strips (or diamonds :-) and cooked those along. To get more pectin from your oranges, tie the seeds, and the white from the peel and other leftover bits in a clean piece of cloth, and let this cook along. Eventually squeeze it out. Especially the seeds contain...

What are your favorite trousers made of?

Thin, dark, supple leather. No problems with sparks, tough, windproof, wet still reasonably warm, silent, blends in with surroundings, cheap (just 5 euros in a 2nd hand shop), prevents cuts. Live and Love, Anneke
