Actually, having spent most of the day thinking and reading about this, I think I need something more like the Sarma Outdoor Jacket than a very nice waterproof like the Swazi Kagoule.
I really want it to be tough enough to roll around on the ground in and cook by a fire. I'd be too worried...
I think the Monsoon Elite would be my top choice but it's just too pricey new - if I could find a used one I'd go that route for sure. But they don't seem to come up very often - which says a lot!
The Jack Pyke Argyll is my most likely purchase at the moment.
Turns out they are an essential store so I might be able to go in and take a look!
Would anyone have any suggestions for something a little longer? That I could sit on the tail of?
That looks very nice too - thanks bobnewboy. I also have a Moles near us so I might be able to take a look. Of course, it's probably shut for the next few months now!
I know, I know, but either the discussions here were old or not quite what I'm after.
So what am I after?
Jacket or Smock.
Quiet (highly important).
Waterproof (showerproof at least).
Spark resistant.
Budget £150.
I'd love for money not to be an issue and I'd go out and buy a Sawzi Tahr or...
I have ordered the TBS Boar in N695 stainless. We'll see how I get on with it. I'm sure in the future when I get more experience I will want something else!
Thanks! That's good to know about the 0-1 - that was nearly a big mistake. The bushcraft knife by Wolfknivesbyterry ticked all the boxes otherwise.
Thoughts on K720 High Carbon Steel vs N695 Stainless Steel?
No, I'm not entirely sure about the stainless steel or the micarta (although I like the idea of that in the more natural finishes). I am set on a spear point, a natural looking handle, pref scandi (although I need to look into convex sharpening).
I really appreciate all the suggestions and...
Oh my god. How are you ever supposed to decide! :D
Think maybe I should look into convex sharpening - open up the possibilities even further! :banghead:
Don't suppose anyone has heard of WolfknivesbyTerry? There is a nice knife by him on Etsy...
Hi All,
More advice on kit please?
I'm looking to buy my 'next' knife. I have the ubiquitous Clipper but would like to treat myself to something nicer. I'm after a general purpose knife that looks good (to me!). Here's the requirements:
Budget ~ £100 - £150
Spear Point preferred.
Stainless...
Hi Erbswurst,
Thank you for your extremely informative and helpful answer. If the Smokey Hut doesn't work out I'll take another look at the Hexpeak V4A.
Many thanks,
Mike.
