Since its SS, you can boil in a pot with some dishwasher powder (or caustic soda). 20 or 30 mins

If you have kids or a partner, I suggest bring them along too. Its much more fun and something you can do together

    Goretex seam repair ?

I've just been through this too. You definitely want "Seam Grip" not "Seam Seal". The Grip is thick and almost rubbery, but will stick the seam down and hold it. The Seam Seal will just end up "wetting" both sides, but won't hold them together, or not for long anyway.

British Army issue Tin opener (the one found in the old tin rations 1980’s)

There are a few sellers of FREDs on ebay. Do a search for "FRED army" and a few will turn up (no affiliation) I've had some for decades and they are still going strong. The longer handle giver better leverage making cans easier to open. The bottle opener can be used as a small flat blade...

    Wild Food Wheel

Hi Brook, A food wheel is a great idea. Some Aboriginal communities (in Australia) have published seasonal calendars. These are not "limited" to food, but can cover all manner of activities related to living in their environment. The idea of a calendar or wheel is a modern one, traditionally...

Best way of eating freeze-dried food packs

Thanks Bluffer. I haven't heard of people frying before hydrating. I have a couple of old freeze-dried packets which I only tend to take as a backup ... perhaps I'll give them a try. My only tip for eating them has been to allow them longer than you think to re-hydrate, add plenty of chilli...

    New Billy cans

And have you used them yet ? Some of these type of billy's tend to rust up pretty quickly if you're not careful.

Looks like "real" marble. Some of those shapes in it are probably the remains of sea creatures....

How do I make forager's tea?

Perhaps a pre-visit to identify some known, safe plants (and un-safe plants) would be in order ? (Can I suggest pine needle tea too, since that was mentione din the op). An alternative is to simply have a plant ID session, then pull out some tea (from home - perhaps even a commercial "wild...

    Bushcraft mastercheff :)

Here's our Sunday roast from a couple of weeks ago. It was a (relatively) utensil free cookup : -Roast chicken with a lemongrass and chili marinade -Onions cooked on coals, -Capsicum cooked on coals -Corn cooked on coals -Potatoes cooked in foil

    MOD Heximane Stove: Any good?

Hot, cold, wet or dry - they work. There is nothing to go wrong - although there can be sharp edges which can be sanded a bit. You can buy (a pencil case ?) or make a small pouch to store the unit to protect things in your bag. Everything has pros and cons, but these can be stored for years...

Have I reinvented the froe? Aka simple DIY froe...

Looks like it works ! One benefit of the more expensive units is that they will (should) use a hardened steel which will be more durable. The blade should stay sharper, longer, and it shoudl resist batoning

The Extraordinary Tale of William Buckley.

There is a bit of controversy about the origins. I have a friend who is passionate about the William Buckley origin, personally I like the origin my dad gave me: there was a large department store in Melbourne called “Buckleys and Nunn”. So if you have “Buckleys chance”, then you have none ! The...

Axe Design contest submision for Autine!

I wonder how the curved handle will “feel” when making repeated swings ? When chopping you get a rhythm with hands moving up and down with each chop. I’d be concerned that the shape of the handle would impede swings. Obviously being able to pick it up would either allay or...
