In my mind, correct b. c. knowledge makes your time/ trip pleasurable, comfortable and safe.

Survival knowledge is very, very important too.
Many skills shown on this forum fall into the Survival bit well.
Making rope, carving stuff, eating wild veg, trapping, preparing the meat, making fire the Paleo way, and so on.

Of course you can use those skills for everyday b. c.!

My civilian time in Nature was roughly split 50/50 between being in a stationary camp for several days at a time, and trekking so no more than one night in each place.
In my more agile days it was a mix, maybe 4 days trekking in the Scandi mountains, finding a superb lake with streams with fish, then settling down for a few days. Then trekking again.

As I had to carry everything, it meant that I had to really think what to pack, and uilize resources from surrounding nature as much as I could.

Safety was always on my mind, always.

I hated watching mr Grylls run around nature, climb, do crazy stunts.
Tv shows can be great ecucators, but his was of the worst kind.

Go out in a Norseman on floats. 21' Chestnut freighter canoe roped under one wing.
After a while, the pilot turns to you and asks: "Where the hell are we?"
Look out the window, look at the map and tell him: "Turn left."
3 loads later and we did not see the grid for 3 months. No big deal.
