It occurred to me that, while people tend to know who I am, you might not have heard about the magazine, so I thought I'd post some information here first.

The magazine was set up in 2006 by Huw Woodman, with the tagline "reconnecting to the landscape," which really describes what we do. An ex-forces man himself, Huw wanted to get away from the idea that you have to be a trained squaddie fighting the odds in a jungle to have fun in the outdoors. It covers standard bushcrafting, but also a range of activities aimed at "adventurous families". We tend to regard nature as something to learn about and enjoy as it is, not something to be fought and beaten into submission.

What we do: how-to articles, natural lore, scientific info, ancient technologies.

What we don't do: large numbers of ads, lots of kit reviews, biting live fish in half (only to throw them away), 4-page articles on the sheewee.

We have just relaunched with more pages and heavier paper stock so it's an exciting time for us.

We shall use this section of BCUK to tell you about our taster courses and shows we will be attending throughout the year. Not least of which will be the BCUK Bushmoot!

Is that the one that WHSmith used to or still does sell but can never be found because they don't know which section to put it in?? Bought a few issues on a whim when I spotted them. Was going to start buying regular but can never find them now in the shop. Don't like subscribing so if I don't see it somewhere after 10 minutes of looking I don't get, sorry. Why do WHSmith change their mag racks around so often? I won't tell you what mags were near where I found it once as you might question if I was really looking for that mag when I found it, which I definitely wasn't, just being methodical and searching each shelf in turn to find it.

I am just slightly prejudiced since there is an article on my carving courses in the current issue but I was impressed with the back issues Bardster showed me. For a relatively specialist publication it has really well written articles, well edited and put together. There was an article on one issue on a guy who had made replicas of all the kit and clothing of Oetzi the iceman which was really excellent.

Hi Paul,
no thats not us, we cant afford the fees to set up a distribution deal with the likes of WHS! That is "Bushcraft and Survival Magazine" run by Simon Ellar, who unfortunately often bill themselves as "The Bushcraft Magazine" and have a very similar web address. Our magazine is available either by subscription or via any of the shows we attend.

Bardster - Think i saw you guys at the Outdoor show two or three years ago could have been 2009 in Birmingham. Had a stand towards the entrance nest to some trail thing in Scotland. Checking your site out now. Sorry for the mistake. Will see how much the subs are.

I may only have one issue missing of the mag. I re-read them regularly as they contain spot on info:cool:.

Courses? - Best course's ever. I can't push them enough. Huw is such a gentle man who exists to help and Bardster's knowledge and specialist tools are legendary (the only time I've seen all the GB axes at one time - even on the GB stall )
The course are hands on and got me into blacksmithing.
The setting for the courses is lovely and quiet (except for the owls hooting)
Don't even mention how cheap the are and then discounted for a family :bigok:
I'm not affiliated just a very, very satisfied customer.
