Can someone on here make me a rucksack? I have a design in mind. Something like a modern Medium Alice Pack, like this:

c94aacc34034cf69760bd89ee4acd59a.jpg

With a main pack size of 55 ltrs. Three external pockets each of a size to fit a 3x3m tarp. I'm thinking olive drab cordura. Budget £130.

Is there someone on here that can help me? Apologies if this is in the wrong place, mods move if required. Thank you.

Sounds like a nice pack. Why not the alice itself out of interest?
Ill be interested to see what you end up with.

The medium alice is too small and the large Alice is just too well, large! The external frame is heavy and cumbersome as well. I've tried both.

I'm afraid you will need to nearly double your budget for a custom made pack with that number of compartments.

There's a lot of work involved in pattern making and cutting.

I have to agree - when I made my own Canvas and Leather pack and shoulder bag I spent almost that much on materials, never mind labour...P2140003.jpg

And I would not be surprised if there wasn't £40 of materials in a pack like that. 2m of 1000D Cordura from Point North is £25 inc VAT and you need two sizes of webbing, buckles, one or two kinds of foam, and ideally several metres of grossgrain tape and something for the frame. It all adds up. The only way that you can get one of a kind cheap is if the person making it is in it for fun and isn't charging much or at all for their time. If they do charge for time you are probably better finding someone who is geared up as a business since they are going to take less time to figure stuff out and do the job, and are likely to have material on hand, not have to special order it. In the latter case, I think you are still looking at at a lot more than your budget.

Wish you the best of luck!!! I know that there are DIY gear forums in the US where they make a lot of stuff like this, but not sure whether it has really taken off over here.

Could you not find a suitable Molle type pack then add three pouches to the exterior of a suitable size. The current British issue daypack is about 45L and you can get three water bottle pouches on the exterior. They only come in MTP camo or you might find some Desert DPM but it should come within your budget. The pack is essentially a Karrimor SF Predator. Indeed you could just get a Predator but you might struggle to find a pack and pouches with your budget.

You would need to do a mod to the pouch but it is doable to connect it securely to a molle pack.

+1. possibly the best option if you are ok with camo. In fact put 'jayjays' into the E Bay search and you should find a fairly well modded one, already has 3 pouches sewn on + other mods

Aye Up,

How about a pre dpm (olive) British infantry bergen - synch the sides in to reduce the main compartment, don't attach any (original) side pouches and either have the external pouches made from scratch or adapted from original side pouches? If you need to you can have the shoulder and waist straps beefed up. A bit of searching and you might even get close to your initial budget?

50 litre pack with adjustable back system.
Can add PLCE side pouches for extra storage.
Add a third centre pouch and the same as the Alice.
Pouches can be added or removed to suit loadout. IMG_0220.JPG
