Good to see more trouser action, it's surprising how difficult it is for the older gentleman to have an Arctic morning constitutional without incident. I'm resigned to dumping in my tent, it's the safest way.

Older gentleman???! How very dare you! I'm still a whipper snapper :twak:

'Tis true though. The humble dustbin liner will always have a place in my pack in large rolls from now on-its the way forward/out. Makes a good weapon too in a bag when frozen hard as steel- a Jimmy Turd? :lmao:

Although remembering Woody's story, not completely safe from embarrassment ;)

Awesome trip report. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

Just one question though. What type of thermometer were you guys using to measure the temperature? Maybe you mentioned it but I missed it. The reason I am asking is that the numbers just seem way off. Maybe I am just having a hard time with the C/F conversions, but the lowest temperature recorded in that area during the period of the trip was 27F, which the conversion table tells me is -7C. I'm sure I am doing something wrong. I know it can get way colder in the mountainous, which is usually not recorded in weather reports. How high in elevation did you guys go?

Did any of you guys experience any serious injuries. I know just last week Sir Ranulph Fiennes suffered severe frostbite and had to abandon his Antarctica trip because he took off his glove to fix his ski bindings at -30C.

Anyway, great trip report. I'm glad everyone made it back okay.

We weren't in any specific high altitude area. Temp readings were mostly difficult as 'cheap' thermometers had problems when temp dropped to around -30C. Best temperature knowledge came from the locals and the market. Why the temp records would show a low of -7C, I have no idea, but with a bit of a chill on my hips wearing midweight wool layers in my -45C sleeping setup, I can tell you it was waaayyyy colder than that ;)

If your hands are warm and dry, you can take them out of your gloves to do things without direct injury even at -30C. Teepee did at one point just lean on the ground (with his glove liners on I think!) and had a bit of frost-nip on his knuckles. Other than that and some numb cheeks and slightly frozen eyelashes, I think everyone was OK.
