Swiss army surplus aluminium canteen.

I have just bought a Swiss Army surplus aluminium canteen. Will it be safe to use it and what should I do to make sure it is clean before hand. Thank you for any advice.

Just wash it up or give it wash with some bleach first if you are really concerned. Then you're good to go.
If by "safe" you are referring to the old myth that ali causes alzheimer's, it is a myth

I usually clean new and old flasks and water bottles with Milton tablets or fluid .......... if its good enough to sterilise a babies bottle its good enough for me I think!

Baking soda & some vinegar (plus water) for the smell.
