I know this is short notice, but we are thinking of popping down to Glyn-Y-Mul this weekend. Ian's very happy for us to do our thing in his woods, but if this continues, i don't know how long this good will is going to last.
By the way, very windy and wet this weekend, as well as the mud and freezing temperatures,but we knew that it was going to be. Fantastic weekend was had by both of us.

I overnighted there the Friday before - same weather - the bench was in situ then, but there was no sign of the litter / twine you mentioned.
There were a couple of tents on the main site when I left - dont know if they went down to the river site though.

Just to stir debate
Is making bushcrafty furniture on site - with wood obtained locally - OK ethically speaking
?
Is leaving said locally sourced furniture in situ for others enjoyment/inspiration OK ethically speaking?
Is itaking said furniture home with you OK ethically speaking?
Now repeat the questions replacing the words "bushcrafty furniture" with "wooden spoons" or "attl attls" or your own choice of common bushcraft field project.......
As some folk know, I sometimes even import my firewood and/or hazel poles onto a site so as to reduce my impact on the location (break to polish halo) but have in the past left "camp furniture" on a site for the enjoyment of others and there has been talk of building a "roundhouse" type of shelter on one heavily used site......
What do folk think?

"Leaving no trace" is a fine ideal but even peeing behind a tree has an impact on the area.....
This is in no way a rant or a dig at what people do or feel personally, just throwing questions into the arena and stirring with a hand cut wooden spoon....

Good points all, as you say leave no trace is a fine ideal, but being there in the first place has impact, so perhaps for ''leave no trace'' one should read ''make minimum impact''
I think you've very eloquently identifed the line between despoiling and useing resource, I'm no forrester and far from an expert when it comes to coppiceing but wandering round this weekend I did notice there was alot less hazel growing than on my last visit and not that much dedfall about either, however an awful lot of what appeared to be green hazel had been used in these constructions. Use of resource? or Over use?.
As for despoiling? well bailing twine littered all over, gardening wire, discarded purification solution bottles, kind of falls into the despoiling bracket for me.
One heavily used site?? sums it up aswell surely sustainability is the key to all this, how long before we or folk like us wreck a thouroughly decent place by overuse??, I do have concerns about how many large groups of folk and how often the site in question can support before things go pear shaped and that which we hold dear is, is lost through lack of long term thinking.
Not a rant a bit of a rmble granted but I hope it kind of makes sense?

I have to agree that littering of any sort - twine, bottles, tinnies, wrappings etc - just not on!
Lets just make sure that in future when we do go there or anywhere else for that matter to be on the ball and make sure we tidy up afterwards.
As for the green hazel being used to make a good bench as long as the hazel was coppiced properly I can't see what the problem is, after all Ian told me we could chop it down if we wanted to as long as we didn't go over the top whilst doing so.
And a nice bench that has been left could be used by other people who frequent the place, after all it is a campsite. As long as it is alright with the owner of the land that is!

Have you any idea what time Ian will be expecting people on the friday - last time I was mistaken for a ner-do-well after his fuel, as I was the first to arrive....
I will be bringing a mass of trade goods with me soI would be interested in seeing what other folk have for swapsies......though I will swap stuff for portraits of the Queen if you all have nowt else to swap!

Hi Dougster the more the merrier, I just picked up some mineral oil from IKEA last week so I will bring that along.
