Yes, looks a bit warm tbh. Worried. Last year in Geilo it got warm and the snow scraped off at the top of the best green run. The longest run in the resort, it was green and it ended right opposite our hotel back door so we could ski to the door after a few runs. It just meant last two days you had to ski around the gravel patches.

Last year, same time, the temperature was warmer than NE England at+4°C.

I'm hoping for a colder holiday and a bit of snow falling too. Although I read that Are had 9 snow machines if things got bad. Also the biggest ski resort north of the Alps. Is that true anyone? Are we really going to a big resort for none alpine places?

Tried TNF chilkat III boots. Less wide than sorel boots apparently but heel lift was too much for my liking so left them.

I'm taking my big hiking boots and some grip coil things. There's space for thick socks and they're a little less slippy than my other lightweight boots.

Next year I'll plan ahead and get some oboz insulated boots. They're more hiking boot looking but there's models with 200 and 400gsm thinsulate insulation. Good grip too. Highly rated from reviews. Plus a narrower fitting that suits me better. Just need to get a retailer to order a pair in to try before buy.

Lots of extra dry socks. If your boots have liners, buy 2 extra pairs so you always start off dry.
Even just felt insoles are better than nothing.

Yes, the Åre area is very large. More than 100 downhill runs, plus many x- country tracks!

Do not worry, they will make enough snow to cushion your falls! :)
It is one of worlds premier skiing areas after all!

Is it really good? Apart from size I wonder how it compares to Geilo in Norway. We had a great time there. That was a "got to try it out once " holiday but went so well we're trying it again but Sweden this time.

We're coming to the realisation that are is possibly another step up from geilo in size and facilities. Sort of a Scandinavian attempt at an alpine resort perhaps. Certainly big. I read that all the lifts can uplift something like 39,000 skiers per hour. That's astounding figure imho if true. Read it in an online review of the resort. Ski resort dot info website. How does that compare to alpine resorts?

ugh --- i hate that rattle
For me as a beginner I found it a little unbalancing. Fortunately by the last day when they appeared I was able to steer around them. Usually meant either a tight turn inside or going wide near the drop off the side of the piste.

Out of curiosity, you come across as someone living in Sweden or born/ bred there. Or some other country/ region where skiing is learnt about the same time walking is. Mind if I ask you which region you hail from? I believe Janne is swedish but prefers holidays in Norway. I like either country but I recall a connection was felt with Sweden, especially gothenburg. I find that weird

Yes, the reason is that the fishing is superior in Norway. The best I have fished in, including Alaska.
Screi Cod wintertime, Halibut, crab, mackerel, Rosefish, sea trout, summer cod, plus a few others!
Plus the mountains are higher. Air fresher, and what we buy in expensive glass bottles comes through the tap!
:)
