There where some pheasants running around that where commented on hungrily a few times, think these 3 are gazing at some in the trees behind.

Ouch Russ (I didn't know you were Warthog on here  ) I remember you did your hand in at the moot, how is it now? What about your ankle, I hope it's healing quickly and you didn't cut your tendons for good.

You mush, have some serious iron in your blood :)

Other than the violence, the meet looked like a good one,I really like the look of those fire poi :D

New Blackbird hammock and tarp from Warbonnet from Hammockforums, excellent bits of kit, well impressed.

Worst temps I saw was -4.6 deg C, Andy across the stream saw lower than -6.

Roll on the next meet :D.

Happy New Year everybody

I'm sure you have a better idea of what happened than 'the fairies did it'. There's a lot to be learned from the wounds we suffer and I don't really want to experience that one o learn from it so if you evaluate what actually what went wrong it would be interesting to me (and I'm sure plenty of others)

To be totally honest i don't know how I did it but let it serve as a very good warning even when you used to using a tool they can and will bit you at some point so the fairies did it to me

That must have been very expensive in boot leather!

Nae leather hurt in the process cut straight through my Avon Much boot ;)

I'M positive thick leather boots wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference

I'm going to post a review of the axe some point :D

Well I just got back, I had a good time.
It was a touch brisk, but I managed to stay warm thanks to a roaring fire, lots of wooly clothing, and Stags Breath :D
I got there on Friday afternoon to the news of Russels "little accident"
I got myself set up (with Wanderingstars Cocoon over my hammock) and moved down to the fire to start eating, drinking, and chatting.
Which is pretty much where I stayed until Sunday afternoon.
:D
I did a bit of sharpening here and there, helped out with some fire by friction, but otherwise relaxed. and enjoyed my break.
I would have stayed longer, but as no-one else was, I packed up.
Great site, I'm looking forward to going back.
Thanks to all who helped organise this little jaunt.

Another great meet. The Scottish meets always are. Good bright weather but clear skies of course mean a few degrees of frost. Good to meet old and new faces.

I arrived on Friday and it looks like I missed the serious partying, with folk ending up nearly legless.

Usual lots of fun; Graham kindly sharpened Ross's homemade knife for him. Thanks also for the idea of camp lentil soup - tried it tonight and it worked great.

It is a good venue for sure.

By Heck Russ.
You certainly done a belter to yourself there mate...

If you want i can make you up a set of leg grieves up like the ones i had on at the Bannockburn film shoot. :) :)
Might help for next time. :) :)

Hope you get better soon Rus.

I'm very proficient with an axe...

As proficient as a butcher bud! :11doh: Only joking.

It doesn't take much to do that at all, I put an axe through my left thumb when I was learning as a nipper.

Hope it heals well and glad you were not half way down Loch Sheil when it happened! I'm kind of curious about that one, if you were, do you think you could have paddled out ok as you really were lucky it happened in an accessable spot.

Perhaps the reason that this post is getting so much interest (apart from the fact that we
genuinely like Russ :D ) is that usually we get him to teach people how to use sharp tools properly. He really is very competent.

It's kind of a wake up call for all of us; if *Russ* can manage to have an accident like that one, then maybe it might not be a bad idea if the rest of us pay a bit more attention to what we're doing sometimes.

Me ? I went to turn some firewood into kindling this morning and found two sets of male glares (HWMBLT and Son2) daring me to even try it  Never mind the grieves Andy, I think they're wondering about chainmail breeks for me ;)

cheers,
Toddy
