So.... I have been off work for a couple of weeks which has given me time to get my new apache canoe finished! I started on boxing day, nursing a bad hangover and it was cold! but thought hey, what else am I gonna do? :)
I did intend to do a bit of a stage by stage photo blog but once i got going I kept forgetting to take the photos:togo: so i will post what i did take, and hope it works out :)

First job was to cut off the excess fibreglass with the angle grinder

Then i had to make a jig for the router in order to make the scuppered gunwhales.

Next job was fixing the gunwhales to the canoe,

http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m524/joelnightingale/?action=view&current=IMG_0295.jpg

Then fitting the decks and carry handles

http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m524/joelnightingale/?action=view&current=IMG_0304.jpg

Its starting to look like a canoe now :)

Next fitting the centre thwart and the seats

http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m524/joelnightingale/?action=view&current=IMG_0309.jpg

Now a few coats of oil and thats it!! in a nutshell anyway :)

Thanks for the comments everyone :)
Yep i cant wait to get it in the water now! My paddle arrived in the post today to so wont be long now. I might try and get it wet this weekend!

Looking good, very tempted by Apache! Can i ask ,what made you choose Apache?

I did a lot of reading up before choosing an apache and it came down to a couple of things, first was cost. You can order an apache ready made or part made or just the hull like i did and do the rest yourself which saves quite a bit.
I also wanted to put my own mark on the canoe which you can do when you buy an apache and fit it out yourself. And also i think they look pretty good to :)

Cheers, Joel

Very nicely done Joely, they are excellent boats, they are fast and in spite of what a lot of folk seem to think, not at all unstable.

That said, it does depend on how you set them up, mainly the height of the seats. You seem to have them spot on looking at the photo's.

I've toyed with the idea of getting one myself but lack of tools and space to work on it, put me off.

top job
