My axe is finished at last ! (many pictures!)

Good idea to leave as is! The idea of a slight curve of edge making a big difference in chopping is something that's usually proved true - but each axe is a law unto itself. I have a Warren with wide 2" bevels that are far more obtuse than most axes. The theory says that it should split wood well but shouldn't chop as well as axes with more acute edges and a more normal profile. In actual fact it outchops the more normal profiles...
And being able to whittle large chunks of wood more easily than sticks with a knife, can be a lot of fun!

Thanks for all the kind words people.. they are all much appreciated.

I'm just finishing off a sheath for this axe, so I'll put up some photos of the finished article when I'm done.
I'm very much a beginner at leatherwork, but, I find that you can fix mistakes with design changes... in fact, if you don't start out with a design....they are not really mistakes at all.

The sheath will be great! I follow the speedy route with a pop rivetter - but even my sheaths work and will outlast me.

To complete this project I have made a bomb proof sheath to protect me and my gear from the edge on the axe.

The sheath is made from 3mm veg tanned leather with a 3mm welt and fully dyed and Nik-waxed inside and out.

The retaining strap has heavy duty press studs on both sides so it doesn't matter which side I undo.

Looking forward to taking this away with me on my next trip.
