I apologize if this is a repeat precaution, as I didn't have time to read all of the posts. It has been recommended against using 100% deet on bare skin, because it is absorbed into the skin and into your blood supply. In effect, poisoning the user. Suggested use is to liberally spray clothing and let dry before putting clothing on. It works well to keep the little nasties from landing on or crawling on your clothing.

For bare skin, I use "Body Guard" insect repellent towelettes. They come in sealed packages of 24 and contain 52.25% deet and 2.75% other related toluamides. It not only stops skeeters, chiggers, fleas and ticks, but a couple of the biting fly species from taking hunks out of you. You simply wipe on a thin layer on your exposed skin, except on or around the eyes and mouth. Once you're done applying the product, place the used towelette aside and use it to help start your evening fire.

Once the resealable pouch has been opened, it's a good idea to place it in a ziploc pouch in case of leakage, which occured on one pouch out of several, but it is a possibility.
